Does the guy in the top left picture actually have a shaded region under his pecs that prevented them from being sunburned?

In other news, the only people you ever seen on television or magazines are, for the most part, all in that upper percentile of human attractiveness.

One interesting thing I noticed during my time on OkCupid was that women expressing a physical preference are vastly more socially acceptable than men doing the same.

Female profile that says no short guys allowed?  Sure, no problem, just someone who knows what they want and is trying to avoid wasting anyone's time.

Dude's profile that expresses a disinterest in overweight women, though?  That guy is a farking asshole.

It's part of the broader societal rejection of judging a woman's worth solely based on her physical attributes.  Discriminate according to your tastes all you like, just be discrete about it - it's far less acceptable for us men to do so these days.  On a practical note, considering that female profiles get hundreds to thousands more messages than male profiles, it makes more sense for them to filter for desired attributes in potential dates.

Why should I be looked down upon by society because the rest of the male population cannot pull in the page hits like my studman69 profile?

Subby and the authors of the article brought a whole lot of personal anxiety issues into what was a pretty straightforward and unremarkable study.

Much like prior studies of female "beauty" it turns out that the basic characteristic that seemed most important (shoulder-hip ratio) pretty much just turns out to be a corrolary for general good health and fitness.

Shoulder/hip ratio is just good health and physical condition for adult males and isn't even an indicator of immense muscle mass, just porportionality in scale.  The other factors studied (height and wangs) had some impact but nowhere near as much as just being healthy.

Obviously everything can be taken to extremes, and attempting to hit 100% on this scale is impossible and silly.  But all men should be encouraged by this study because it basically just says that if you want to increase your appeal to the ladies, all you have to do is get healthy and in basic good physical condition.

So it's ok to discriminate against something that someone has no control over (height), but not against something they do have control over (weight)? Strange value system.

And height bias is no small thing either - being 6 inches shorter in height for a man predicts an equal drop in wages as between men and women, or between white and black. 90% of fortune 500 CEOs are over average height, and over 50% are over 6ft (over 3x the ~15% in the general population)

I wish I looked remotely like that at that body fat %. Even if you don't account for the muscle mass, they would still be more proportional than me at that weight.

To be fair, a preference for height is understood to be arbitrary, as they have no control over that.  A preference for weight is sort of an intrinsic judgement of their lifestyle, which is actually a bit insulting.  A woman posting "no fatties" would also be considered a bit of a stuck-up biatch, and a man saying he prefers shorter women wouldn't really be looked at as being a douche.

It is like Chris Rock says...
"Women want EVERYTHING!"

So I just take the method that women do with other women, I ignore the inanity...pay attention to the real stuff.
Man, they get upset at the most trivial things.
Which pisses them off about me...but, then again...they're going to be pissed off at me anyway,
...even if I'm doing everything perfect at the time.

Me?  I just want to do what I want to do when I want to do it.  Including nothing. What's wrong with that?
As long as I take care of business.

What if I put in that I prefer women who douche and are shorter so they can give me BJs easier while I rest my beer on their head while watching TV?

be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.  good looks and a huge schlong will work......for a while.  then you have to get to know and live with the person. that is when things could change.  the only lasting thing is what is inside.

and the smart ones don't express physical look requirements because they know that any real relationship will not last with only physical attraction or 2 hour orgasms.  good looks are a dime a dozen.

the young always have to learn that one the hard, painful way.  but learn they will.
