This is not true, my God would never let this happen.

I like that one.

ArcadianRefugee: Wtf is "trigger warning"?

(Gets through long-assed article that sounded justifiably angry to start, and then detoured into cranky person ranting)

Oh.

Why not "NSFRV"?

ArcadianRefugee: Wtf is "trigger warning"?

Trigger Warning:Used to alert people when an internet post, book, article, picture, video, audio clip, or some other media could potentially cause extremely negative reactions (such as post-traumatic flashbacks or self-harm) due to its content. Sometimes abbreviated as "TW."(via Urban Dictionary)

Rape/abuse/molestation is often labeled Trigger Warning as a kindness to those who are sensitive to such content due to personal experience.

Lsherm: ArcadianRefugee: Wtf is "trigger warning"?

A phrase that people who went to college and studied useless subjects use in everyday life in the hopes it will catch on.

So it's a spoiler alert.

For people overdependent on "feelings" - yes.

OK, but how do you know what kind of warning it is? Is it rape? Is it child abuse? Seems awfully generic. I mean, "could potentially cause extremely negative reactions ... due to its content" sounds like half the Internet.

Or is it only sexual in nature?

TW: Rape or Trigger Warning: Rape is normally what it would look like.  Warning first, and then the reason for the warning.

Not always sexual.  Some eating disorder recovery sites for anorexia/bulimia  will put a Trigger Warning on certain posts.  Same for people who are "cutters" or other self-harm.

"Triggering" reactions can be panic attacks/PTSD type stuff (rape/abuse) -or- relapsing certain behaviors (bulimia/cutting).

Just an excuse for the "Facebook moderator" to boast that he earns $30/hour, while admitting that algorithms do 99% of the work.

Keep up the good work, farkwit.

2013-04-15 08:00:54 AM
What I care about, what really, truly farking offends me is the fact that after 5 hours of reading through your butthurt sob stories, I find the 7 year old girl who, too scared to tell an authority has figured out how to report a picture her uncle posted of her that was blatantly, obviously sexual, and begged for help. "He says he's coming over today at 2. Can you please help me, I don't know what to do."

Ban girl's account for violating Facebook's 13 year age minimum.  Pat self on back.

He said $30 more than average worker, not just $30. Though he is getting paid a ton to spend all day reading endless things, deleting some of the horrors of the internet, and what not. Despite how considering how big facebook is, 1% is still a huge job.

That sounds a 4Chaners dream job.

A trigger warning on Fark? When did Drew get a Livejournal?

They actually have moderators?  Well that's a relief.

I thought it was the old joke about putting enough monkeys in a room and a Shakespeare play will be written.

Mods are the worst

2013-04-15 08:14:45 AM
My only take-away was "Farcebook has *moderators*!? Seriously?!".

Boo-hoo. Anyone posting for genuine help on facebook needs to be trimmed from the herd in any case... leave them be. It's for the greater good.

Can just imagine how butt-hurt said 'moderator' would be on something like 4chan.

The moderators at Tea Party Community delete accounts that *don't* repost crazy uncle rants.

Trigger Warning

rape rape rape rape rape rape rape rape rape rape rape

/trigger warning

2013-04-15 08:15:58 AM
Trigger warnings are stupid. First of all they are not nearly common enough to give any sort of protection. You cannot assume something is safe because it doesn't have a warning. Secondly if you are so traumatically affected by the content then you need to seek help immediately. You will see and hear things every day that might be a trigger and waiting around like a ticking time bomb isn't a good way to live your life. Victims need help with being survivors not with being comfortable in their victim status.

Yep. This. No one will protect you from yourself in the end.

He said - and I quote - "Did I share that *most* of these people make around a dollar per hour to do this job? That's the truth. Not me though. I am an American who demands rights and all, so I make approximately $29 dollars per hour more than them."

Last I checked, 29 dollars more than 1 dollar is 30 dollars.

/Yeah, math is hard

Wait, are you saying you make -less- than that?

I cannot imagine a more boring and intermittently soul-destroying cubicle job than that, and I cannot imagine anyone wishing something like that upon themselves as a career choice. Especially for that little money. If you have either a worse job, make less money than that, or god forbid both at once, then I think a serious re-evaluation of you life should be on the agenda.

So your takeaway from that was "a chance to brag about making a little more than median wage"?

My trigger was wanting to beat with pipes those retards who prevented the little girl from getting raped with inane complaints.

...as far as some of the incredulous reasons behind why some good page owners get banned or get their pages removed unjustly.

I'd suggest a little less time whining and a little more time learning what "incredulous" means.

Mom would have replied: If you can't handle the heat get out of the kitchen. Fark FB for their incredible censor filter that treats some words as dangerous as gunfire regardless of the context. Whiny author should get a job jerking coffees at Starbucks surrounded by happy shiny people sipping their overpriced yummies.

2013-04-15 08:31:58 AM
Hey guys, I know it's my job to moderate and all, but please stop reporting things that don't matter to me personally. I work for Facebook and am paid like a hero. My job shouldn't contain mundane details or involve solving problems actually related to social networking. My job should be like those CSI guys, who spend all day solving crimes and only doing the parts that look cool on TV.

2013-04-15 08:32:00 AM

I'm sorry that your job being, y'know,  exactly what you are paid to do so offends you, oh high and mighty one.

Quit and let someone that understands that internet moderators are not the farking police and not responsible for police matters take the job, i'm sure they'd appreciate the pay.

I call fake.

2013-04-15 08:41:26 AM
His rant sounds faked. However, if it is an actual Facebook moderator rant, I highly doubt Facebook is going to let this guy keep his job. Large companies do not like employees trash talking their products. In this case, the products are the users.

impaler: So your takeaway from that was "a chance to brag about making a little more than median wage"?

Hate to point this out to all you smart guys, but "median wage" varies depending on where you are in the country.  As there is a great difference in cost of living between, say, NYC and the middle of nowhere GA, a person may make less in GA, but net more money overall because they pay less for the same size house, electricity, food, etc...

(Translated from the the poor excuses for grammar and spelling most of them arrive in)
