The article writer was just confused about what state Kansas City was in. Some of her coworkers said Missouri, others said Kansas. In the end she just went with "some state" since they're both run by idiots.

One program participant, Nicole Williams, a 21-year-old Kansas City mother of three, said she was hopeful she'd pass the GED test soon so she could avoid the electronic version. With it, she said, "you've got to learn how to type, use the computer, plus your GED. That's three things instead of just trying to focus all on your GED test."

so wow
if only you had spent time in school, you know, trying to graduate, rather than pumping out crotch-spawn.
if only they had taught you about sexual reproduction and how to avoid it until after you had finished high-school

But where will our political alts get their Law and Economics degrees?

In the first revamp since for-profit Pearson Vue Testing acquired a joint ownership interest in the nonprofit Washington-based GED Testing Service, the cost of the test is doubling to $120.

That explains it.  Well, with any luck, sitting for the GED will now result in a test that is mind-numbingly slow, has a 50% chance of stopping at random, and is taken inside a hotbox filled with South Asian food.

Pearson test facilities suck.

The typo is still there nearly 3 hours after the Boobies.

Thanks for reminding me why I don't go to Yahoo News anymore, Yahoo.  Well, that and the fact they stick stories from Glenn Beck's derp site in their news feed, and their commenters are scumbags.

Maybe it's an inside joke because it's about the GED.

How exactly does a for-profit corp buy a nonprofit?

At one point Yahoo News shut their comments section down for about three years.  I don't know why they bothered to start it back up.

Capitalism. Hell, non-profits would disappear completely if we listened more to Libertarians.

I'm guessing not. The story has been up for 6 hours and it is still there. Maybe the writer is trying to be clever?

Truly. Interpretation - welfare is making her take the test or risk losing benefits.
Why do I have the sinking feeling that she has a FB account and some mad texting skillz?

I have an idea here that would involve explaining things to people who didn't pass the GED and I'm just not feeling it.

Besides, I always thought taking the GED was something people paid for.

The article would do well to mention that states, taxpayers, and people seeking a diploma alternative will all benefit from capitalistic competition.

GED needs to a better job of explaining how the new process will save money overall and the "additional services" it will be providing.

I think for the most part it will save GED/Pearson money. The states and those who take it will pay more, increasing profits for Pearson. It's great!

Ignoring that, what 21-year-old doesn't know how to type or use a computer? Don't even bother with the GED, you're pretty much out of luck in terms of jobs if you don't have those basic skills.
