Wouldn't it be interesting if China, Japan, S. Korea, and the USA all cooperated in convincing Fatty III to STFU and GBTW rebuilding his ghetto of a country?

Indeed.  Beijing is polluted enough as it is.

Still when your closest ally is amassing military units on your border it's time to farking dial down the crazy.

This is the part I don't understand. Maybe I'm just being a little dense. China has been NK's big brother while the US has been SK's. There is what whole "assured mutual destruction" threat left over from the cold war that until recently kept it to a little chest puffing, and hollow threats. Now NK it telling China they are a big enough boy to take on the entire world on their own.

We all know that the little Un is batshiat crazy, but there must be some others in enough power to see to it there is a "little mistake" that puts the next Un into office. Preferably with a rabies shot already administered.

I would have no problem with China moving in a sorting out their mess, but sadly the Chinese military units are probably just there to stop the expected flood of refugees in case anything happens.

2013-04-12 07:59:15 PM
This is why I'm not afraid. China will not tolerate any threat to their economy. The party bosses have grown really used to being fabulously wealthy and will throw a million screaming Chinamen at Kim Yung Fat and his tree soup Army.

Relax, they've got this one.

No doubt, if he hits south Korea, or Japan or even the US, we would retaliate. But there would be some measure of proportionality   China would go full glass parking lot

Pud: China has been NK's big brother

Not quite.

China is on China's side. They've always been on China's side. In Chinese their traditional name is "The Middle Country" They're the center of the world in their mind.

Read The Art of War. That's basically how the Chinese work. Deception and empty promises to confuse the enemy until you can amass enough overwhelming power to crush them and then giving them a chance to submit peacefully followed only if necessary with the crushing itself.

They've used North Korea and supported them back in the 50's, but they're not quite as generous to the Norks as we've been to the South Koreans. They'll use them if needed, but right now they're not needed. So they're building up their military on the border because they might have to crush them.

Of course, you're right. I was thinking more along the lines that China has been NK's big brother because it gives them a bit more of a buffer zone. It is outdated given today's technology, but I seriously think China would not be comfortable with a unified Korea as a friend of the US, granting us bases close to their borders.

China is not going to have an american protectorate on it's border.  That is the whole reason the forgotten war escalated in the first place.

That. Does no one know anything about the Korean war?

I don't think it would come this time to shooting between us and the Chinese, but the Chinese would roll in to prevent us from rolling all the way to the Yalu. They have no intention of having a unified Korea on their border.

Ummmm... That would be because MacArthur was pushing the North Korean army and population over the Chinese border and there was a serious situation going on in Taiwan.

It's a lot more complicated than you're suggesting.

They're amassing troops to prevent a flood of starving refugees from storming the border if war breaks out.

Yes it is.. this is a message board, not a book. But China still isn't going to start shooting at the North.  They may not directly support them through military means but the Chinese troops at the border is not a message to the north it's a message to the Japanese, South Koreans, and Americans.

Or, very near the border. MacArthur would have followed them and the Chinese were terrified of that.

They've become very capitalistic. I would not put it past them. I think I know many people who have been VERY surprised by the Chinese statements and especially these latest military moves. It suggests an entirely new policy altogether.

I say its gonna get to the point that its one nuke each from the United States, China, and Russia, hitting just the right spots in North Korea.  It'd only take those three.

China is not going to let NK eff up their economic march towards global domination. You're right that they're not there to help out a coalition take down Un, but they're certainly not there to back up the north. Do you really think China is going to let Un nuke even a single Wal-Mart?? Turn your keyboard over.. Where was it made?

Unless North were to take over South, kicking America out of South.  China would be fine with that kind of unified Korea on their border.

2013-04-12 08:54:19 PM
That's the stupid part.  A nation that prides itself thinking so short term.

If Korea was united, and China took a positive good neighbor position regarding Korea - you know, no claiming islands right up to their shore, respecting their fishing waters (I know, would never happen) and even helping build up the former NK territories...

They could probably arrange it so that the Koreans themselves felt no need for American troops on their border.

Hell, they could as much as propose such a thing up front.  We help you absorb NK, redevelop and rehabilitate it, you agree that American troops will stay south of the 38th and leave Korea altogether in 15-20 years.

I wouldn't be surprised if China does the heavy lifting, annexes 50 miles past the border to China and then gives the rest to the South to rebuild as long as no permanent US bases are built in former North Korean territory if it comes to war.

It serves multiple functions. One of those is to put pressure on Dear Leader and the those under him. It also helps serve as a barrier to any US/SK action. It also reduces the probability of millions or refugees streaming into China if war breaks out or the regime falls.

Actually, probably not. NK is sitting on a trillion dollars or more in rare Earth minerals, and it's notoriously hard to extract mineral wealth when it glows in the dark.

They would just go full 'lebensraum', and kill anything that even lookedlike it might have once upon a time been associated with the regime in some way. A million North Koreans would die, the UN would send a strongly worded letter, and the US, Japan, and South Korea would all breathe a sigh of relief.

The only issue is whether China would set up a new puppet regime, or if they would just flat out annex the place. Either way, we would let them. After all, there's not really much we could do to stop them.

2013-04-12 08:58:51 PM
I'm starting to think that this is an effort by Un and Chinese authorities to give reason for China to roll in and annex NK completely.

I'd halfway expect China to nuke one of their own cities with in a false flag operation to a:) give cause b:) to clean house.

For the conspiracy theorists in the room, how else would you arrange for the WTC buildings to be torn down and rebuilt?

I hope I'm not doing a Cassandra or ultimate black swan. I'm just blue skying some worst case predictioneering.

You should try reading some of your own stuff sometime. It's fascinating!

If you don't understand that China has a different view of North Korea than 50 years, hell... 10 years ago, then you are not really aware of the situation.

China has made it abundantly clear that they only care about money and becoming the most powerful country in the world. They won't allow some fat kid to sh*t on their parade.
