Worth watching. Deep weird.
It doesn't get much weirder that Rod Steiger as Mr JoyBoy and his 500 lb mother clawing handfuls of meat out of a roast suckling pig and eating it as a crow pecks out of one of the pig's eyes.
/Momma's little Joyboy loves piggy piggy
//Momma's little Joyboy loves suckling pig

"They tell me,
My dear uncle.
They tell me
You were hung,
With red protruding eyeballs
And black protruding tongue."

Winters/Steiger did Waugh's book justice
/merciless level of parody for `65 - in the same neighborhood as Strangelove
//too bad Ernie Kovacs bit it when he did

At the end, it was very sudden.

That's when Mork and Mindy jumped the shark. THe plot device bringing in Winters turned me off the show at the time.

I was also 15 at the time.

This.

Much like Jack Nicholson, Winters didn't need "act" crazy.

filter: Robin Williams owes his career to that man.

Thatand Gary Marshall allowing the cameras to keep rolling during his unscripted, manic, cocaine fueled freak outs.

Huge Winters fan here.

The man was certifiably insane - and a comic genius. He could morph into any character literally on demand.

/The world gust got a little sadder

I always knew Winters was alive, RIP. But I thought for sure Sid Ceaser died a long time ago

2013-04-12 08:12:59 PM
I thought he had been dead for decades. Sad, but got about 20 years more than I would have bet on.

The first comedians whose names I learned - and this will show just how old I am - were the Smothers Brothers, Bill Cosby,...and Jonathan Winters.  He was a ray of delirious, demented sunlight in a dark world, and I know of no one who can fill his shoes.

2013-04-12 09:03:21 PM
Carl Reiner, Jerry Lewis, Stan Freberg (!) also on that list posted above... still, the MAD MAD movie was 50 years ago. They have a better longevity record than the Different Strokes cast

/or Are You Being Served
//RIP Jonathan
///He didn't have to act weird... just had to copy people from Springfield, lol

Loved him in "The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming."  Maybe a lost gem of a movie.  RIP,  Jonathan and thank you for everything.

Well this was a pretty crappy way to end up my week...

RIP funny guy.  I can't count the number of genuine belly laughs you gave me over the years... but I thank you for every one.

Dammit! When I said I wanted Winter to end I didn't mean like this. Never like this!

One of the smartest, and definitely the funniest, celebrity I ever had the pleasure of meeting.

Goodnight funnyman and a heartfelt thank you for all the cheer and sunshine you brought to our lives. If you see Charlie up there (doubtful at best) please kick him in the butt as you promised.

2013-04-12 11:31:53 PM
He'd have appreciated that headline

2013-04-12 11:31:59 PM
From the Smurfs 2 wiki: "This will be Jonathan Winters' final film after his death on April 12, 2013. It will be dedicated in his memory. "

Because we weren't sad enough.

OK what is that from? I think I see Julie Andrews, Shelly Winters, and Larry Hagman

George burns. Robert Vaughn. Some I know the faces but not the names.

I saw "Mad mad..." when I was a youngster. Many years later I was trying to remember the movie with the "W" in it. Then I saw it, and remembered most of it from the first time. The best part was Winter's line "he was ugly...I mean REAL ugly".

How about Bob Mazurki, Mike's son who played Eddie, the kid who drives Benny's car? There is a Robert Mazurki living in California who is about the right age.

First, Paul Newman and George Carlin finished out their careers as cartoon characters, Why not Jonathan Winters?   I can see it now.  Eddy Murphy dies two weeks before Shrek 12 is released.  Tim Allen dies after production is finished on Toy Story 4.  (they spaced the sequels out further than the Shrek series)

He was one of the few comics that could actually make me hurt from laughing so much. RIP, amazingly funny man.

I haven't laughed like that since the Carol Burnett show went off the air

Mickey Rooney and Sid Ceasar out of the main cast. Stan Freeberg(so), Marvin Kaplan, and Barrie Chase out of the supporting cast.

Surreal, insane, and brilliant.  I loved Jonathan Winters' sense of humor.

Rest in peace.  You were enjoyed.

Hot and Holy Hell! When did Johnny Winters become one of the undead?!? That is the most unhealthy live, human body I've ever seen. His farking hands are purple, his face red and he is skeletal and freaky looking. The years have not been kind... o.O
