That's when Mork and Mindy jumped the shark. THe plot device bringing in Winters turned me off the show at the time.

I was also 15 at the time.

Damn, the man was one of the greatest comedians. A true loss.

R.I.P. Jonathan.

ManateeGag: Abe gets another one.

I'm pretty sure Eli Wallach is the oldest celeb surprisingly not dead yet

Nice one, subby.  That was literally what I was thinking when I saw the news.

2013-04-12 02:38:44 PM
Sir, you won at life. I applaud you.

2013-04-12 02:38:50 PM
They always talk about guys who are a "comedian's comedian". I always looked at him kind of like that, he was the guy who could make all the big names get chuckled up.

2013-04-12 02:39:31 PM
One of the true greats. A very great career and a good long life. He shall be missed

2013-04-12 02:39:46 PM
Wasn't he the guy that built the ramp that allowed Mork and Mindy to jump the shark?

2013-04-12 02:39:51 PM
So in fifteen years, look for Jesse Carter to be a really biatchin' pool player.

Rest well, sir.

I actually thought that's who this was. I'm like, "Damn, he JUST filmed a bit for the Daily Show last week!"

Loved him on "The Davis Rules" - the Emmy he won was richly deserved. Pretty funny show by itself, but the real fun was waiting for him to pull off an ad-lib and watch the rest of the cast corpsing like crazy.

I had always heard about It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World but never saw it until about a year ago.  That is some funny shiat.  49 years old and it still holds up well.

Watch it kids.  I'm sure Netflix will have it available.

/and the trifecta was Ebert, Funicello, and Winters

I am a devoted fan of dirty comics, but Jonathan Winters proved you didn't have to always hit the lowest bar to get the biggest laughs.

Along with Victor Borge, Winters was one of the great comedic icons of my childhood.

"Now the freaks are on television, the freaks are in the movies. And it's no longer the sideshow, it's the whole show. The colorful circus and the clowns and the elephants, for all intents and purposes, are gone, and we're dealing only with the freaks."  Q.F.T.

mjohnson71: Then again he served a couple of years as a Marine in the Pacific during WWII and that tended to add 10+ years of looks to most men.

Very true, the pictures of my Grandfather as he graduated from basic training and 2 years later when he was discharged show a lot of aging and he was a radar man on a Destroyer Escort.

LOVED JW - sorry to see him go, but it was a good run. His biggest mistake was introducing Robin Williams to manic improv and we've had to put up with that for 40 years.

Really weird, uncomfortable movie. If you like that type of flick, it's worth seeing "The Loved One" at least once.

I've seen it and read the novel that it was based on. I'm not sure which one was weirder.
