I wouldn't have expected it to go viral either... and this is Iran who knows if they could be in trouble for having the laptop...

Also, I think a Self Destruct button would be a nice addition to this tracking software.

They may not have known it was stolen at the time. The article doesn't discuss any transactional details.

FTA: He concluded: "The people shown on the blog site are not thieves."

But they did receive stolen material.  So why apologize?  Granted that they might not have known that it was stolen (but then again, if they are living in a "squalid-looking flat", how can they afford to legitimately purchase a Macbook Pro?

That's like being surprised when the loudly anti-homo leader or a southern U.S. megachurch gets caught with a gay man base deep in his rectum.  The more loudly somebody declares their righteousness, the more likely it is that they are committing the very sins they decry.

/imho, the GIs should be allowed to have/have access to porn, banning sex prevents pregnancy, but you can only stifle sexual urges for so long

Funny True Story,
We had a few laptops stolen from our office in Ft Lauderdale a few years ago. We had installed LoJack on them. 1 ended up in the Bahamas, 1 in Queens, NY.
Care to guess which one we got back?
Turns out LoJack is a Canadian company and has more sway with the Bahamian police, then with NYPD. NYPD went to the residence and inquired about a stolen laptop and were told that it may have been there at one time but was longer there. The laptop stopped broadcasting at about the same time. My guess it is at the bottom of the Hudson now.
It did take 9 months to get the one from the Bahama's back.

Gulf War? How much porn was on the internet in 1990-91 and how many GIs had internet access at that point? There was no world wide web and even Gopher was in it's infancy.

Neither do I but we're talking about privacy law, which can get pretty farked up (i.e. recording the police while they're in public).
Also, this story has some gaps in the information.

FYI - for anyone interested, (not-a-featured-partner) is a free tracking app.  It was mentioned in a thread last year.  I put it on my kids laptops and run a test every six months or so.

Isn't there an embargo in Iran for Apple tech?  They knew it wasn't legit when they bought it, either way.

I thought there were sanctions against sending technology to Iran? Hold on, I need to adjust my tinfoil hat. OK, now what if the laptop in the "poor squalid" conditions is actually a coverup, and they are using it to advance their nuclear research? Won't he feel bad about being the cause of nuclear armageddon? Unless he's counting on best Korea beating them to it I guess.

And also, if the laptop made it from London to Iran, people transported it there. Is it really that easy to get to Iran from London? Not that I'd ever want to go, but it seems that I'd have an awful hard time getting from the US to Iran, even if I did fly to London first. And if its that easy to get from London to Iran, how difficult is the return trip? With stolen camels or terrorist stuff or whatever.

Is that a large bottle of booze on the coffee table? If so, that's yet another reason to take these pics down. Drinking alcohol in Iran can be punishable by death.

Is she living in the States? She probably got over that then. My ex was (well still is) Japanese. She was good loyal woman till she got to the US, and learned about all the repercussion-free shiat she could do here.
