GAT_00: As I've said plenty of times, there will be no GOP civil war.

There were two "Republican" responses to the State of the Union adress this year.
There already is a GOP civil war on.

One perspective, for the non-retarded socially conservative GOPer, is to consider that maybe when no one wants to represent you or your antiquated beliefs, it might be time to grow up and not be such a bigoted asshole.  But who am I kidding, you are a retard!  So, come up with your third party solutions and keep pushing yourself further into the fringe, you degenerate f*ckfaced pieces of sh*t.

scottydoesntknow: Tony Perkins, the president of the conservative Family Research Council, quickly accused Republicans of "throwing the party's social conservatives overboard" and has since urged social conservatives to stop donating to the Republican Party.

Why does anyone give this hate-monger a box to stand on?

Because two boys kissing is icky.

Serious Black: Satanic_Hamster: Supes: Serious Black: Oh man, I can't believe I didn't see this originally. Bryan Fischer tweeted yesterday: "Whether GOP even has a future at stake tomorrow. RNC expresses support for sodomy-based marriage, GOP is finished."

What the fark is a sodomy-based marriage?

I suspect this may have to do with the RNC's failure to support Ken Cuccinelli in his war to get all sodomy outlawed in Virginia. Yes, this was intended to include oral between two consenting opposite sex married adults.

Love Republicans on this issue.

"So your party thinks that the state and federal government should have the power to jail a married couple for engaging in oral sex."

My ex and I should have been charged with several hundred felonies and thrown in jail for the rest of our lives if they had their way.

"several HUNDRED?!" and she's your EX?

Dumkopf!

You know, I bet the Republican leadership is secretly hoping for a SCOTUS decision that would legalize gay marriage.  This way they can go the abortion route.  They don't have to actually vote for it or have it passed by a majority.  It riles up the evangelical base with activist judge rhetoric while they quietly lay aside the issue for a few years.    The gay community high on their win will move on to other things and then the Republicans can start the incremental attacks on gay rights all over again.

Aarontology: Why is anyoen surprised?

This is the same part that ini 2010 said they wouldn't focus on social issues because it's all about the economy economy economy and then proceeded to try and introduce something like 400 bills on social issues.

34 failed attempts to repeal Obamacare at last count.

FloydA: The GOP will either continue their campaign of hostility towards women, gays, and minorities and thereby keep the religious right but fall ever further into minority status, or they will reach out to women, gays, and minorities, and thereby lose the religious right and fall ever further into minority status.

Either way, I hope that a new opposition party rises to take their place.  I don't want to live in a one party state.  I just hope that the new opposition party decides not to cater to the insane and stupid like the GOP does.

It's like the Democratic party realized during the '64 convention: you could either continue to embrace the white southern racists in your party , and piss off al the minorities in your coalition,  or you were going to have to tell the good ol boys to pound sand and make it clear they were really welcome anymore.  It Hurt the dems to be sure, but they counted noses (and perhaps consulted their consciences since I don't want to be completely cynical) and made the hard choice and forced a decisive break with that part of their constituency.

Trying to have it both ways as the GOP is doing now is a sure recipie for disaster.  They are going to fail in their outreach efforts AND de-energize the religous zealots in one fell swoop, leaving them in an even bigger fix than they are now.
