It's not at all uncommon, but I'm always puzzled by where that one shoe comes from, especially when it still appears to be in pretty good shape.

Passenger side person has one foot hanging out window while they are sleeping and the shoe falls off. Not noticed until they wake up and the driver isn't going all the way back 100 miles to get it.

A toy T.rex off the 10 FWY in Los Angeles.  I'd creep past it everyday in gridlock traffic, then one day it was gone. Its one of my life's great regrets not snagging it.

Well, a friend of mine in grad school found an old toilet on the side of the road and hauled it into the lab.  It sat in the center of the floor, lurking and contaminating us and our experiments, for about two months.  Blegh.

A semi truck slid off the southbound side of the interstate and split open in the snow. There must have been hundreds of cans of Budweiser sitting in the snow after the pulled the semi and the trailer away. I don't really think anyone handling the cleanup thought the beer would stay around. I saw beer on the way up to Champaign on the northbound side of I-57. About two hours later, when I was heading south, the place had been picked clean. Lots of tire marks and footprints in the snow. It was salvagers because I know the cleanup people like to travel in a single file to hide their numbers.

2013-04-12 12:53:34 PM
A boat.

I assume the trailer had a flat tire and someone was coming back for it, but I could have had a free fishing boat if I wasn't driving a Hyundai at the time.

Was it a model 1170 running RSTS?  If so, I wrote a Star Trek program for it in college.

Let's check with the judges... Ohhh, I'm sorry, we were looking for "a free cat". "A free cat". OK, Jim, you have control of the board...

My dad would always threaten to leave us on the side of the road if we didn't behave. He actually made my brothers walk a mile in front of the car so they'd quit picking at each other.

I saw a peacock run across the road out in the middle of NOWHERE in Georgia. Does that count?

Also saw a dead person, but he wasn't "abandoned."

Did you use it as a sample stool?

A dead guy hanging out of the windshield of a crashed car.  I thought it odd somebody would throw that away, odder still to own one to begin with.

A combine harvester on fire on a dirt road turnoff
Technically it probably wasn't abandoned, but the owner must've run off to his nearby farm for help or extinguishers or something

I wore out a motorcycle and left it ion the roadside with a sign saying FREE MOTORCYCLE.

I also gave one away on Craigslist, it was gone in 20 minutes.

and below in script                         and kittens!'

Not strange just funny/cute.
