What_Would_Jimi_Do: and being 17 years ago, most people here wouldn't remember an infestation of this magnitude.
HotWingAgenda: Those things have been underground soaking up ambient pesticides and other chemical waste for nearly twenty years.
pyrotek85: Catlike Typist: 'Shrimp and lobster eat garbage and they are the insects of the ocean,' says cicada cook Jenna Jadin.Yes, this is why I don't eat shrimp, and will likely never taste lobster. You expect people to eat land arthropods when you can't even remove the exoskeleton? Only on reality teevee....Hah, I'm one of those weirdos who'll eat the shrimp tails. Doesn't bother me lol
White_Scarf_Syndrome: Columbia, Maryland. Around...1986? They came out of the ground. I was 7. We saw the larvae crawl out. We saw them attach to the vinyl siding of the houses and hang there. We had big white buckets and we would pick the empty shells of the larvae and collect them. The newly hatched final molts (thats not a proper term I know) would cling on the tree, the houses, everything, looking moist and gross. I think the next day we went on a rampage. We simply plucked them, tore their wings off, all the while with that awful BBBBZBBZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ noise. I could not do it now. Until, there was a group of us, we had cleaned the tree grove clean of empty larvaie shells and live bugs, when we looked over at the ground. It was a different buzz. It was a big farking hornet, the size of which we had never seen. It was black and yellow and it said, "do not fark with me". We realized that different buzz was the cicada, being carried away by a Cicada Killer. I would like to try bugs to eat, but, i can't deal with those blood red eyes of the Cicadas. Chop em up and put them on a pizza, then maybe.Second in fright only to the Tarantula Killer I saw a few years back here in Texas.
CygnusDarius: First we ate the horses--we weren't riding anywhere, not with the castle surrounded. We couldn't feed them, so, fine, the horses. Then the cats--never liked cats, so, fine. I do like dogs--good animals, loyal--but we ate them. Then the rats. The night before you slipped through I thought my wife was dying--she couldn't speak anymore, she was so frail. And then you made it through the lines--slipped right through, with your little black sailboat, and your onions cicadas.
neongoats: But this might fill in...Moses: An' when they was no meat we ate fowl. An'when they was no fowl we ate crawdad. An' when they was no crawdad to be foun', we ate sand cicadas.HI: You ate what?Moses: (nodding): We ate sandcicadas.HI: You ate sand cicadas?!Moses: Dass right . . .[isaacspictureconclusions.files.wordpress.com image 500x282]
