Pico isn't salsa

"pico de gallo ... also called salsa fresca ... Pico de gallo can be used in much the same way as other salsas ... The tomato-based variety is widely known as salsa picada ... In Mexico it is sometimes called salsa mexicana ... etc."


It also translates to "Beak of the rooster". For reasons that have never been adequately explained to me.
