I think we're all being distracted from the real issue, pretty people have it easier than everyone else...except people born into wealth...and rich pretty people have it easiest...we should all just hate on them.

A Public Service Announcement On Behalf Of All White Dudes

As a white dude myself, I don't recall giving this self-loathing turd permission to speak on my behalf.

2013-04-11 10:36:51 PM
Also, how is the video on behalf of white dudes if it's addressed to white dudes?

Pfff. More white guilt. I'll believe in White Privilege the day I see Whites Only scholarships/grants.

Do you come from a land where there are no white people? Have you never seen a white person before? I can show you some pictures.

This is the most true thing ever posted on fark.  No matter what color you are, if you have good looks or money or both, you are miles ahead of the rest of us

I have to wonder, how many of these videos change minds? Who is watching them and agreeing with them except people who already agree?

It reminds me of this girl I worked with when I had a shiatty restaurant job. She would read these books on her break about how Jesus is the answer, America can solve it's problems through faith, etc. But she already believed those things. And someone like me, someone who disagrees, wouldn't seek out a book like that. And even if I did, I doubt I would draw the same conclusions she did.

One of the amazing things about the internet is that it offers a world of different opinions and viewpoints to explore. Yet people stick to what they want. Political sites especially tend to become echo chambers. And they sometimes warp into these strange, extreme versions of themselves over time.

I'm not saying I disagree with some of the points the guy brought up. But it just seems like an act of futility. Like an abortion bumper sticker on your car. Something to polarize unproductively.

/which is great if all you want is views and ad revenue

Lando Lincoln: RoyBatty: 2) Assumes in fact they are "white" whatever that means

Do you come from a land where there are no white people? Have you never seen a white person before? I can show you some pictures.

I come from a land that was a melting pot, then a salad bowl, then a melting pot again. Where there were Protestants, then Irish, German, French, Jewish, Italian, Swedish, Norwegian waves of immigration alongside Chinese, Japanese, Mexican and latino waves.

Where many of these groups suffered and were othered and were kept from jobs and kept by quotas from immigrating, and beaten up, and lived in ghettos.

My parents were kept from neighborhoods that had covenants against Jews. Am I white? Before they could not buy in those neighborhoods, they were in fact explicitly kept out of the US due to quotas. Am I white? Growing up I was told I killed Jesus, and ridiculed for not celebrating Christmas. Am I white?

I truly don't feel white. I dislike sports, I dislike much of popular culture and have little to do with it, and historically, American society has directly worked against me and my family.

Yet, somehow, this guy, and you, and radical feminists and racialicious wants everyone to know I've had it on easy mode.

I can show you some pictures if you like.

Me, I'd prefer a society that respects all of its members and doesn't try to play one off against the other or dismiss some because you Lando Lincoln feel they had it on easy mode. Because in reality, you know shiat.

This line of reasoning is bullshiat.  It's the same as that 'first world problems' malarkey.  Just because I have it slightly better off than most people doesn't mean I don't have problems and that I'm not marginalized by someone or something somewhere.

There's starving kids in Africa Billy! You have to finish all your lima beans!

Well then, it's settled.  You get a scholarship! And you get a scholarship!

Hey I'm a 30 year old straight white guy. I now I probably have it easier than a lot of other demographics. I don't complain. At all. You now what I do hate though? Being farking lectured to all the time about how I have it so much easier and I should stop complaining. I'm not complaining and I don't like being generalizations either, thank you very much!

/I'm not a big fan of the slutwalks either as the subtext is that every man is a potential rapist and needs to be reminded how to behave.

BunkyBrewman: I'm questioning his manhood, which is why I put those quotation marks around the word "man".

This is an awfully queer thing to do. Why would you do that? It's obvious he's a man.

You mean you'd prefer to live in a "reality" that wants to forget what happened before and ignore what's happening now.

"I'm a white male!  How many advantages can I get?  You can't even hurt my feelings!  'Ya cracker!'  Aw gee, you ruined my day.  Took me back to owning land and people!"

So that's a bullshiat statement. I say we should live in a society that respects all of its members and you attempt to twist that into some form of bigotry.

I'd prefer we all live in reality, not the social justice hell that your childhood nightmares makes you want to impose on people you don't know but feel superior to.

The world is full of guys.  Be a man.  Don't be a guy.

Lenny_da_Hog: mrbach: I was actually nervous about this, thinking he was going to go one way, and then he just went that way. Sort of agree. How do white straight guys get to complain about anything really?

/still complain though

I complain when people stereotype white men as being all about white men and think I should feel guilty for every injustice ever committed in the name of misogyny, racism, or homophobia.

Nobody expects you to feel guilty.  Acknowledging both past and present injustices doesn't need to be an exercise in guilt unless you choose to make it so.

If it weren't for white men surrendering their place of privilege and promoting justice, there would be no women's suffrage, no civil rights legislation, etc. A lot of white guys have been pretty cool about the entire civil rights thing, and grouping us all together as some sort of elite enemy is just as short-sighted as the racism and misogyny that we fought against.

And there were even more white men on the other side of each of those arguments.  The fact that neither one moved forward until a significant portion of the white male population eventually supported them tells you everything you need to know about where the power has been historically resident.

Look- the key thing here is not to take it personally.  Acknowledge that you and I benefit from being of a certain colour and gender at a specific point in time.  Acknowledge that that brings with it features not necessarily available to others.  And then at least be empathetic to policy solutions that aim to deliver those desirable features more widely.  That doesn't make such proposed solutions immune to criticism- but it does require looking at them from the perspective of not someone born on third base.

There is no need for guilt.  We are where we are.

I'm white AND gay and it's not easy.

/it is however a lot of fun.

RoyBatty: Yes, I, a partially disabled, short, fat, single, old, pretty ugly Jewish guy clearly have it easier than the young big breasted woman pictured above.

False comparison. What if you were all the characteristics you listed above, but you were black instead of white?
