they had me until they got to the caramel sauce. otherwise, its kind of like lobster mac and cheese.

Sounds ok to me. Salty, sweet, spicy. I like things that taste like those.

$22 bucks though? Guess that's the premium for eating at a "trendy" restaurant, because I doubt there's much lobster to justify that price.

monoski: INeedAName: highbrow45: That sounds disgusting. What's wrong with a couple pieces of American cheese between two pieces of buttered bread?

Because American cheese is shiat.

and we wonder why half of  this country is overweight, a sandwich of cheese coated with butter (probably on white bread)

Sorry, which one of us ran a half marathon last weekend?

that may be, but it's ideal for a grilled cheese sandwich.

It may be an unpleasant experience, but whoever eats that sandwich is fortunate nonetheless. Tomorrow will be the most beautiful day of their life. Their breakfast will taste better than any meal you and I have ever had.

Meh. If you're not using Widmer's brick cheese, you've just got a hot sandwich that incorporates some melted cheese. I pity those of you who don't know the deliciousness of a true grilled cheese sandwich using Widmer's brick.

When the cheese stops being the star it's no longer a grilled cheese sandwich, it's a melt. I'm all for some condiments, like caramelized onions, basil, or ajvar, but this is too far for it to still be grilled cheese.

There was some article on here a couple months back that said it's actually a British invention I think? Something in WWII, they remove some element of the cheese and that makes it stay good longer. About to pack up or I'd GIS

Processed cheese? It's mostly oil and water with a bit of emulsifiers to bind it and some dairy powders and food coloring.

You are fortunate. You must stay very, very far away from it, because it is disgusting and quite inedible. Often it is sold as "cheese food," and you should be concerned by the fact that something nominally intended to be food has to state that fact on it. That is just how disgusting it is.

dunno, lobster is expensive right now. just saw it for 10.99 for a 1.5 or less chicken lobster at the grocery store. usually its 8.99, and frequently on sale for 4.99/5.99.

It didn't sound all that bad until they got to the chipotle part.  Assuming the damned things are smoked to death, as usual, and overpower everything with the smell of burnt campfire smoke, as usual.

I love open faced grilled cheese with the tomatoes on top broiled until they're soft.  Dead simple and totally addicting.

I have a friend who will eat anything you put in front of him. He's fun at a buffet. We once made him a plate with some ice cream, gummy bears, salad with shreded cheese and dressing, all wrapped in a slice of ham like a taco and topped with whipped cream and thousand island dressing and he ate every bit of it.
I think now maybe he should open a trendy restaurant in midtown manhattan.

I used to do that in middle school for money.

That being said

Very thin sliced onion and tomatoes (paper thin!) are acceptable additions, especially if you use Meunster cheese

Fark. That.

If you start adulterating a grilled cheese sandwich, you're farking up the sandwich. Its bread and cheese. Its not heirloom tomatoes, pesto and cheese, its CHEESE AND MOTHER FARKING BREAD. Its a grilled cheese sandwich. Its a cheese sandwich that has been grilled. I know bacon is delicious and I love it as much as everyone else, but its not a grilled cheese if you add bacon and avocado. This makes me irate. My husband once suggested we fancy up some grilled cheese. I told him I would make the fanciest tomato soup I could and then I'd make him a grilled cheese sandwich. He was satisfied because I was in the kitchen making his sandwich.

Extra-Sharp Cheddar + Port Wine + Sodium Citrate.  Heat it up and mix together, pour onto silpat and let cool.  Now you have the best cheese for grilled cheese.  Almost melts like American, too.

Hi. I think we have the makings of a support group.

For optimum yums, grate cheese, add Worcestershire sauce, then add just enough ketchup to give a sticky 'dough'. Spread on pre-toasted white bread, no butter. Grill until caramelised.

If there's any kind of meat on a sandwich, it isn't a grilled cheese sandwich.

You can have fruits and vegetables on a GCS, as long as there is more cheese than anything else.
