I've been trying to go on a trip upstate since October.  The first weekend I scheduled was when Sandy hit, the second was Nemo, and now there is a tornado warning in the area.

It's my fault.

I'm in between the snow and the tornadoes. We're getting flood warnings here.

Haven't you heard? Their talking point has evolved. Of course climate change exists - it always has - but it is in no way caused by any activities of mankind.

2013-04-11 12:07:59 PM
No, it's just a new season called sprin-ter or w-ing depending on how you look at it. Like the new month of June-uary that we have here in the Kootenays. Which applies to the +5 celcius in mid winter and the several feet of snow we seem to get every late spring.....

It was 70 Monday, cold thunderstorms the past few days, and might snow tomorrow night.

Goddamnit, Chicago. I should've stayed in California another year.

Spring tornadoes in the Midwest aren't climate -- they're seasonal weather.

"Spring storms unleashed heavy snow, rain and high winds, including tornadoes " Rapid (on the timescale of hours to days) temperature changes bring with them high winds. High winds bring with them tornadoes.

Without tornadoes, the Midwest would be rapidly overrun by trailer parks.

Okay, so, I'm confident that this means either that it's the end of the world, or global warming is real.

Since I have yet to see the dead rise and follow Loki on a quest to destroy Ragnarok, I'm assuming it's Global Warming.

It does seem a little unusual for any place to get tornadoes and snow in a single 24-hour period, though.

Figured this was going to happen this year. Last year I was golfing in February.

This has been one of the most depressing winters I've experienced. There's been snow on the ground and temps below freezing for 6 months now. Of course, I'll be graduated and gone by the time the ice gets off the lake.

Past two days in downtown Chicago, the water has been coming at you sideways.  Doesn't help that my office is right by the lake.  I'm waiting to be hit by a flying fish.

Conditions that favor tornadoes don't often occur in front of cold fronts behind which are conditions which favor snow.  Usually there's at least a buffer of a few days.  In Colorado, they got a couple tornadoes from this storm, followed within 12 hours by 6" of snow.  That's not normal.  Typically if it's cold enough to be snowing behind a cold front it's not warm enough in front of it to support tornadic storms, especially ones capable of significant damage.

It's unusual, but not extremely rare.  All in all, it appears very similar to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1967_Oak_Lawn_tornado_outbreak

Nope, what's next is Mothpocolipse 2: Electric Boogaloo.

They all migrate back from Mexico around mid-April to early May. Last migration, during last October, 40 of them got into my apartment. By the end of day two, I was going all Samuel L Jackson on the moths. " I am sick and tired of all of these mother farking moths; in this mother farking apartment!".
