They're really stupid and racist," Sragow said at one point. "The Republican party is increasingly the last refuge of old, angry white people who don't like what's going on in this country."

I'm not sure if that's really appropriate for class but it's true.

Seems accurate. The Prof is laying it on a little thick... for a classroom setting.

My problem with it is, is that really college material? That seems like the sort of thing you'd cover in a 7th grade Social Studies class.

2013-04-11 11:06:21 AM
Yep.  Bad professor, but with a point.

2013-04-11 11:07:26 AM
You know what I did when I had a terrible professor?

I took a different class.

2013-04-11 11:09:39 AM
What class was he teaching?  My Opinions 101?

Talgo, who is a registered Republican - but considers himself a libertarian...

What's his Fark handle?

2013-04-11 11:15:23 AM
The student could raise his hand and say something in class, or see the professor after class and talk about it, give the professor a scathing review at the end of the semester, or bring it up with the Department Chair.

2013-04-11 11:18:17 AM
Now, this depends on the class...

If it's some flavor of poli-sci, when where's the issue?

If it's a math course, then maybe the professor needs to be educated on appropriate discussion topics for Calculus 101

Eddie Adams from Torrance: Talgo, who is a registered Republican - but considers himself a libertarian...

LOL.  All for personal freedoms until he discovers this guy is grading him.

I used to get relentlessly taunted by a prof who was a prolific conservative.  He hated me.  He loved Monica Crowly (one of my frequent poli sci classmates).  But you know what?  He was a fair grader and didn't hold your opinions against you if you justified your positions well.  So I didn't care.

Looks like he's at Pepperdine now.  I studied under him at Colgate.

2013-04-11 11:21:15 AM
Please. I had a professor who had a signed picture of himself with Ronald Reagan. He was a former Ambassador and giant Republican. For shiats n grins, a classmate of mine did his final project on how Jimmy Carter was 100% right on foreign policy and the guy gave him an A because his argument was solid.

Argue with the professor. Discuss with the professor. if you think you're right- back up your argument with facts.

Don't biatch and moan to Fox news.

I am in a class right now where my teacher is a tea parties so im getting a kick out of these replies/she literally has lecture slides she stole from WND about how much better Texas is than California

This is what FOX is grooming from the party though, a punch of whining pouters.  I remember when they were the party of the tough guy candidate.  now they are just a bunch of blubbering children.

You're a conservative student patriot being forced to listen to your liberal professor say mean things about Teabaggers and Republicans in class. Wat do?

I dunno, not care? How many of us libbo-lib-lefty-socialisters ever heard teachers say something we disagreed with?

I know I have - you have three valid options:
1. Do nothing. It might feel like being a pussy, but you're not there to "spread the truth" or whatever. It's the professor's fiefdom, and unless he violates some law or university rule, let it go. Your blood pressure will thank you for it.
2. Send a letter in protest to the university. Hey, maybe an attack on the GOP is out of bounds in a Calc 3 class, enough so that the administration cares. You can sit through the hole class, or skip it; finish for the grade, or drop it - no skin off the uni's hide, and you get to remain ideologically pure.
3. Object loudly in class. Nothing more self-righteous than disruption.

Hell, I took a class that basically shat all over Orthodox Judaism (ironically, a Jewish history class), and another that shat on America's Cold War policies - I disagreed with those teachers for a variety of reasons, but working the refs seemed like a bad way to try and work through them. The Jewish history teacher seemed to enjoy needling me (a kippah and an earring was apparently too big a mindfark), but I'd rather let it go than try and ice-skate uphill in front of 300 people who just don't care.

God forbid stupids get exposed to ideas that conflict with their own in an academic setting.

Yes, and apparently his entire course lasts only 16 minutes.  I suspect he says a lot of negative shiat about both parties and the political system in general.  It is amazing what you can accomplish with cherry-picking.

I think that opposing idea's are the basis of education... but I also feel this Prof overstepped the bounds.

I studied history in Quebec City.  You should see the spin they put on Canadian history from the Quebec perspective.  In seeing Canadian history from both biased perspectives, I think I actually have a better more balanced understanding of the nature of it than either side.

If you can make that estimation based on 16 minutes of cherry-picked excerpts, you are smarter than me.  He said a few statements which may have crossed the line but that just might say more about his teaching style than anything else.

A professor could say "I'm a Liberal, and you will from time to time here my Liberal opinions.  Deal with it."

Whether the entire curriculum, how factual he is or how he evaluates is students based on this would be more relevant.

Politics at its core, is the struggle of class against class.  To make no effort to define the classes "Latinos" or "old white people"  is not an honest discussion of politics.

USC has always leaned conservative.

Yup. A semester's worth of lectures edited down to 15 minutes. I'd like to hear what this James O'Keefe wannabe's classmates have to say about this prof.

Dinki: They're really stupid and racist," Sragow said at one point. "The Republican party is increasingly the last refuge of old, angry white people who don't like what's going on in this country."

Yup. This kid obviously doesn't like the truth.

/USC alumna & ex-Republican (the latter is because I experienced some of that GOP racism first-hand)

Hmm...just noticed that one of the links in the Faux News article goes directly to Prof. Sragow's contact page...but I'm sure that butthurt conservatives wouldn't dream of sending him threatening emails. Oh gosh, no.

Professor Calls Republicans Stupid & Racist

I don't see the problem.

Do want professors to lie?

was this material going to be covered on a test?

this is from USC so don't expect quality teaching.

Nice try, Lamestream LSM Streaming Media! A True Patriot would *NEVER* willingly sign himself up to attend a America-hating Communist Muslim Socialist Indoctrination Camp like a so-called "university" unless it was to loudly sing "God Bless the USA" at the sodomites! Why, you may as well re-enact the RCA "His Master's Voice" painting with you as the dog and Lenin's very butthole as the gramophone!

What's worse is he actually bothered to go through god knows how many hours of lectures to edit together 15 minutes of his prof saying mean things about republicans.

Just think what he could have accomplished had used that time to pay attention in class instead.

2013-04-11 01:38:54 PM
"I knew that this was going to be a professor that was very left-wing, very biased," Talgo told Fox News. "I knew this would be one of those classes where the professor would be biased all the time."

Then take another class if it upsets you so much.

It's important information.  A waste of time, however, since the smart students aren't Republicans and the stupid ones are already committed to the GOP and are beyond hope.

Fox news would never cherry pick information to make a person out to be a demon liberal.

This.

It sounds like the professor was intentionally making inflammatory statements trying to get a discussion going. This is something professors teaching social science classes often do to illustrate different sides of an argument and to get students to view things from a perspective besides their own.

2013-04-11 02:02:16 PM
You go to school to end up less stupid than you were to start with. So, yeah, you are going to hear things that challenge what you think you know about a lot of things. There's a reason Republicans are known as anti-intellectual. There's a reason one of their own big names had to plead with them to stop being "the stupid party." If it hurts to hear it, too bad.

2013-04-11 02:03:11 PM
Prove him wrong.

You know you can't.

I'm a little torn. I'm all for savoring the tears of butthurt teabagging Republicans. But smug college professors can be really farking obnoxious.

2013-04-11 02:07:21 PM
How dare that commie prof challenge the ideas that run counter to those of some of his students. A university is no place for ideas or controversy.

Go register at BJU if you want your worldview reinforced.

2013-04-11 02:08:01 PM
The truth hurts.

2013-04-11 02:09:09 PM
I am surprised the professor's response was so measured.  I would have more openly mocked that pathetic student.  Cannot stand up to a differing opinion, so he secretly records him and goes crying to the right-wing noise machine.  Boo hoo.

2013-04-11 02:10:13 PM
Where's this guy's info? How can we torture him for going to Fox instead of following one of the suggestions mentioned here? I think he's earned as much.

2013-04-11 02:11:02 PM
this lib is in deep shiat, or he would be but we can't sue him for slander since all he said was factual information, but we're gonna get real mad about it and tell our viewers how lib he is

Talgo, who is a registered Republican - but considers himself a libertarian, said his video is proof that university campuses are hostile places for non-liberals.

Fark Indepedant TM can't stand to hear the truth. BooHoo...
