Also, crackers.

Start with $500, cut that in half over 10 years. Then we can talk.

Some of those comments are the best.  "If the Republicans would only agree to raise taxes, our troubles would be over."  Why we'd even "have a surplus".   It's magic.

2013-04-11 10:21:11 AM
The President needs to put in his fair share of effort into spending less.  His lack of any effort cut spending as he promised and his desire to make the sequester hurt as many as visibly possible rather than do with less, the best way possible, shows how incapable of leadership he is .

I just picked up my taxes, I'll be paying and doing way, way more than my fair share Mr. President.  Muster up some leadership qualities and show some spending restraint for the good of all the American people and the children and grandchildren you're asking to pay for your reckless spending.

So, are you saying we should call our forces home from Korea, Japan, Australia, England, Germany, Poland, Afghanistan, Iraq, etc...? Reduce our Navy, particularly our carrier groups by 2-3? Because if you are not willing to give up the US dominance in the world then you are not ready to reduce military spending.
There is a reason that the defense budget is so high and it buys the US dominance of the entire world and it stabilize the entire world.

Only if you are willing to increase the number of wars, death, destruction in foreign lands should you ever be willing to talk about reduction of the military. Personally I agree with you, screw Africa, the Middle East, South Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan, Europe,Israel etc... we need that money and thoseresources at home to take care of our own people. If that meansIsrael and Iran or India and Pakistan start chucking nukes at one another, so be it.

Most economists would agree with you, but not entirely. Apparently to lower the deficit we need both spending cuts and an increase in revenues. Think about it like losing weight: diet  andexercise.

Bwhahahahahahahahahaah!

Did your taxes increase by more than 25%? No? Then shut the fark up. The US government borrows 50% of the budget there is no amount of cutting that will make up for that. More than that this president has had the slowest growth of government spending in 30 years. Fewer Federal workers than either of the past two presidents, and offered solid compromises on taxes and program cuts that both sides hate.

It's not the presidents fault that the House and Senate won't do what is best for the country only what is best for themselves individually.

This.

There's no way to solve the budget deficits without tax increases. Period. If you want to say oh close all tax loopholes well then in effect you are still raising taxes on people.

You can certainly start cutting programs out of the federal budget but if you don't raise revenues you'll do basically nothing to solve the budget deficits.

You may be wasting your breath on that one -- when it comes to Federal budgets, most American "conservatives" these days don't believe that addition and subtraction both work at the same time, as evinced by their talking point "we don't have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem".

/Yeah, it's retarded. I know.

Most economists don't think we should be lowering the deficit at all right now.

To use your weight loss analogy, it's like recovering from a horrific physical injury and deciding that would be a good time to stop eating.

This. You dont go on a strict diet and exercise program when you are sick. And I am not talking just a cold. You might be overweight, but you dont start stressing your body when you have the flu.

Thats just a recipe for disaster.

It's all very simple when you ignore empirical evidence.

Obama wants to squeeze more from the wealthy. It's been his calling card all along. He got some in the fiscal cliff negotiations. He wants more. Until he lets go of that, no budget deal. He, apparently, can live with that.

that may be, but we also have a standing military in all branches, not to mention the civilians that work (mostly in R,D&E) in the DoD. Even if we cut down to the bare-minimum to maintain a decent defense, there's still a great deal of expenditures for defense.

If you scoot over to the budget thread you can see bald faced claims that Obama "doesn't want cuts to SS" dispute years of him saying he wants cuts and just now submitting a budget that contains cuts. Flat rejection of reality like that is either trolling or illness.
