Microsoft will probably find a way to ruin the number 7 now.

*Sigh* Reminds me of the days, when I was 20, porking a 28 year old divorced mother of two.

Got a Turd that you can't polish?

Dont' worry....just use the patented Ballmer® fragmentation approach...and split that turd into a variety of sizes in the vain hope that more shelfspace might translate to more sales.

If you want to learn from History, however, take a look at what happened to Apples hardware range under Gil Amelio.

Since they had middle-school girls hip-hop dancing to promote the Surface, they'll have to go with someone younger for the smaller tablet.

I don't think anyone wants to buy a ultra-thin Ally McBeal tablet.

I have an Asus ME400C Windows 8 Tablet. At 10.1 inches, it's right at the threshold of being too small, once you're doing real computer work.
I guess if MS is just looking to run Win 8 RT, it would be fine. But really it's just another 7" tablet, and there's better choices out there in that size.

To be a success it has to be at most the price of a Nexus 7 and if the screen isn't as good then it needs to be down to price of a Acer Icona B1. What it will be is as low rent as the Acer and cost the same as an iPad because Microsoft.

/Sell the damn RT's at cost to lock people in to the Windows 8 world
//Make the money on the Smartphones, Apps and desktops
///Will go full retard because the last good thing Microsoft made from the start was the Xbox

Yeah this won't help. The main utility of the Surface is its keyboard and the presence of Word. On a 7" tablet that's worthless. Just sell the Surface as is for $300, or $350 with your choice of keyboard cover. Make money in the app market after. Yes you will be selling the device at cost, but there's no other way to break into this market. No one is paying Apple prices for a Microsoft product.

Put the full Office Suite in a 7", stylus-enabled phone and I'm there!

MAKE.  THIS.  HAPPEN!
