WBC has legal non-violent protest. This guy was calling houses repeditely after being asked to stop.
If this guy had signs that said "shooting was a fake!" "Victims on vacation" and said his beleifs in a non violent manner then he wouldn't have been arrested. Say what you want about the WBC but they know the law

Police in Portland, Ore., have arrested a man suspected of making harassing phone calls and sending upsetting e-mails to the families of those killed in the Aurora theater shooting.

I'd say it was because he was doing things that were already considered illegal to begin with.

Repeatedly calling someone after they've asked you to leave them the fark alone is harassment. It isn't covered by free speech.

To put it another way, you can stand in the town green and tell me the shooting was a conspiracy all you want.

Hey Bullseyed,

Give me your phone number & email so I can ask you to prove that you're not part of the NRA conspiracy to get as many gun massacres occur in one year as humanly possible.

See, I believe that it's actually a group of far right activists who have secretly trained gun enthusiasts to commit mass shootings in such an alarming frequency that the government will eventually be forced to ban guns which finally give the Militia morons the new Civil War they so desperately want.
I base this on the exact same evidence that Kevin Purfield, Alex Jones, and other "Truthers" have, however I found out that stick their photographic evidence in microwave while simultaneously standing on your head and eating cheerios, you get the secret messages.

Remember, you just have to let me contact you via email & telephone so I can determine whether or not your part of Operation Potato.

I await your answer

Right. Because harassment is not a chargeable offense.

Calling someone on the telephone is not harassment.

If what he says to them on the phone is so harassing, why did they answer the phone to begin with? Why not hang up? Maybe the victims families should be arrested for enabling harassment by not hanging up the phone when he calls.

All it takes is for them to say "please stop calling me" (in any form, they don't need to be polite about it) and for him to keep doing it in order for it to turn into harassment.  This isn't some grade school "I'm not touching you" bullshiat, this is a full-grown man harassing the bajeezus out of people who very recently lost young children.  Use your brain.

Bullseyed: Based on YOUR definition of harassment, making this post is harassing me.

/Your move

Not really, no.

There is a difference between calling someone repeatedly, and posting online.

My posting my disagrements does not prevent other people from posting (tying up your phone line). It does not force you to not-use your computer to get away from the noise (If he's calling them repeatedly, the only way to get the phone to stop ringing/interrupting their lives would be unplug the phone).

Posting online is, really, kind of fundamentally different from calling someone on the phone.

Now, if I dig up your email or IM name, and constantly bombarded you with how you suck and are an idiot, followed you to every messaging service you used, flooded your inbox?

Or, if, say, I tracked down your real name and address, and started posting it in these threads going "LOL, this is where that dumbass lives, this is what he does! Let's call his boss and show them he doesn't think harassment is real!" (Note: I have no intention of doing this. This is not a threat. It is an example. I likely lack the skills to do so anyways)

THAT would be the internet analogue of harassment. Not disagreeing with you in my post. Going out to intrude in your life, constantly dogging your steps-THAT'S harassment.

Of course, you don't really believe harassment is a 'thing', so I can understand why this must be a difficult concept for you to grasp.

Yes, he does. In fact, he accuses a couple of million people of being part of the cover-up, because that's how many it would take to silence something like this, starting from Bush and going all the way down to the friends of the friends of the family members. He says that the two planes that hit WTC were remote-control military planes, that a missile hit the Pentagon, and that everyone on Flight 93 were taken off the plane before it was remote-control crashed into the ground. He maintains that all the people aboard those planes are being held in some government facility until they die to keep the cover-up in place, and when he plays sound clips of the people on the planes talking to people on their cell phones he mocks and derides how "fake" they are.

He's also made a bunch of updated versions of Loose Change, calling each one the definitive version and just shuffling around some sound bites and adding new lunacy with each edition.

You think conspiracy theorists have "reasons"? You obviously don't understand how conspiracy theories work.

I happen to have some family members to who buy into this guy's same conspiracy theories. And it does have to do with guns. The idea is that Barack Obama faked the massacres at Aurora and Newton, using combinations of holograms or moon bases or whatever, so that the public outcry can prompt a new wave of gun legislation to take away all our guns.

The idea is that once he has disarmed the populace, he can then turn the U.S. into a dictatorship and bring us under the fold of the New World Government, run by either the Bilderberg group or the Illuminati or some conflation thereof.

That's the common ground for all these theories. After that, it tends to get wacky. For example, my family members believe that once Obama brings us into the NWG, the world will be about to end because of (depending on the day) either a meteor impact, a passing planet causing gravitational havoc, or a solar flare that wipes out all electronics on the planet. The idea is then, in the chaos, Obama, the Illuminati, and the NWG will be the only ones with firearms, and they will create a new social order out of the ashes.

Anyway, I think all that shiat is insane, but yes, it is about guns (peripherally). These folks are almost without exception avid gun owners and 2nd amendment activists. They want to survive the end of times and resist the NWG, after all. There's a whole subculture with, I shiat you not, conferences and stuff. It's all tied into the sovereign citizen crap, constitutional law, fiat currency, etcetera. People will hold panels on this shiat.

This is the type of person that Gun Nuts feel should own a gun.

"Don't blame the guns!"

"Okay, fine, it's a mental health issue. Don't let crazies have guns!"

"NO! GUN ALL THE THINGS! GUNS FOR BREAKFAST, GUNS FOR LUNCH! *WHAAAARRRRRRGAARBLLLL!*"

RembrandtQEinstein: From the story: "None of the contacts were threatening but were unwanted and annoying and Purfield would often use vile language," according to the news release.

Does that mean I can have Jennifer from card member services arrested? Because those calls are unwanted and annoying and I consider marketing-speak to be vile language. Oh wait I'm not a politically sympathetic individual so the full weight of government won't come down on the people who annoy me.

The guy is an asshole but unless you want to live in Demolition Man then you need to agree that the government needs to draw a bright line between actions that cause HARM and actions that OFFEND.

Right. Because harassment is not a chargeable offense.

He sounds like a particularly nasty paranoid nutcase who think every atrocity is a "false flag" and won't accept any evidence or argument to the contrary.

Sgt Otter: Bullseyed: Bender The Offender: Which fark favorite will be taking a short break? My money is on Silly Jesius or Tenpoundsofshiat. They both seemed farked up enough to think taunting the parents of dead children would prove their "mad" troll skills to the Internet.

Just like the people who claim 9-11 was an inside job are taunting the victims families right? Should we arrest and execute the morons who made Loose Change?

I've never seen Loose Change, but does it actually accuse the victims of being part of the conspiracy, and that they're not really dead?  Does it accuse the next-of-kin of being part of the cover-up?

/Serious question, I've never seen it, and have no desire to.

I haven't seen the whole thing, but mostly it just "asks questions," in the Glenn Beck sense. And spouts a lot of easily disprovable nonsense about the physics of aircraft fires and building structures. That's the great thing about conspiracy theories. They don't have to make sense, and you don't have to have any evidence. All you have to do is find ambiguous facts surrounding what actually happened, and Raise Questions about their ambiguity. And lie; lying is a big part of it (e.g. the "pristine" bullet that went through Kennedy and Connally is actually quite flattened on one side, and WTC 7's supposed lack of damage ignores the gigantic freaking collapsed whole on one side where the bigger towers critically damaged it).

Thank God, it's been like a week since Dr. Ben Carson was the GOP's savior and I've been waiting for someone to step in and fill the void.
