I'm guessing that behind the scenes they're ripping fat-boy a new one, but they have to keep up appearances.

Oh look, China trying to look smug and superior while pretending that they weren't the cause of a lot of these tensions to begin with.  Nothing to see here, this happens all the time.

Hey China, if you really want the NK menace to stop, you're the one holding the power cord.  Actually do something other than adjusting the saddle on your high horse.

That didn't sound level headed at all to me. It sounded like diplomat talk for "Mind your own farking business or there'll be trouble!".

Yeah, this.

And as for 'Beijing "does not allow troublemaking at the doorsteps of China."' ... China, don't try to start talking shiat.  We don't want to fight you, but you really don't want to fight us, either.

We honestly should take this as a clear headed moment of some shiat might actually go down. When the crazies stop sounded so crazy thats when we need to turn our heads and actually listen.

I read this as Beijing has lost control of the leash on its little dog.

Excellently crafted letter. Looks and sounds professional, blames everyone else, strokes the high ground gently, doesn't really offend anyone in any big way and will certainly go well with the rest of the world that isn't really connected to the area, like Europe. Europe will eat this shiat up. With a fork.

Yep.  They come across like reasonable and rational grown-ups.  They'd be quite pleasant to deal with if it wasn't a front.  I don't think any country is capable of acting that way IRL, it's just not human nature.

Pretty ,much this.  If China can't keep there little biatch in check maybe the US needs to move some more factories to Taiwan, or Vietnam.

World to China: make your dog behave, or we'll make your dog behave for you.

NK exists because of China, and only because of China. Now your crotchfruit is out of control, and you blame everyone else.

China  is a world power. They just happen to be a world power with large portions of the country lacking in basic amenities like indoor plumbing and power grids. And that will hold them back from becoming a superpower.

I think what China is trying to tell the world (i.e folks like you) is pulling the plug ain't going to do jack shiat! NK ain't a light bulb and Americans better throw their bad analogies out the window because it doesn't work that way. Only simpletons think like that.

It's not like the West hasn't used other countries as some form of a buffer or for containment.  In this case, though, Best Korea is just getting a wee bit too uppity for China's tastes.

The only western buffer country that has withered on the vine is Mexico, and that's primarily because it's full of Mexicans.

Panama, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Turkey, and (west) Germany all turned out pretty well.

Mao purposefully made the Korean war as bloody as possible, not caring how many Koreans died or how much damage has been done to the country, just to spite the US.  The PRC have been supporting the NK regime covert and overtly since then and have continued to do so.  NK's biggest trading partner is China which produces most of the consumer goods and other things that NK is unable to produce on their own.  They have also benefited from China's diplomatic cover in the international community as well as in regards to UN sanctions.  Not to mention PRC affiliated corporations helping the NK elite funnel money and banned items in and out of the country at will.

NK isn't a self sufficient country and most certainly doesn't have the resources to produce the military materiel that they are using for sabre rattling all by themselves.  China can pretend that they're just a neighbor and don't have a dog in this fight, but they have been funding three generations of that regime and implicitly allowing the country to be aggressive and hostile towards other nations.  Where was the Chinese reaction when NK shelled ROK's island and killed people?  Or sank one of their ships?

If China pulls the cord, NK will know that they are without allies due to their actions alone.  I'm not advocating for a war, I'd prefer cities don't get destroyed because Dear Leader wants to flex his muscles.  What I won't tolerate is China sitting on their high horse and acting like an independent observer when they could have been involved in the peace and negotiation process from the beginning.  They have power over NK, if they really are dedicated to peace they should be using it now and not publicly jerking off in their government propaganda paper.

Well I for one am appalled that a country would allow money to flow freely to that regime just because the conditions there happened to suit their needs. I need to blow off some steam now; if anyone needs me I'll be playing pachinko.

That might do it, since the only known case of someone escaping from a North Korean gulag was motivated by the guy finding out that there's food in China.

For once.  Seriously, for once. The US didn't do anything wrong.
The exercises were scheduled a year in advance.  Supposedly they happen every year. Escalation?
We moved anti missile defenses.  Hardly provocative.

We displayed bombers, and make it clear we would defend ourselves or attack if necessary.

But this isn't a case of the big bad US picking on them.  The UN passed resolutions that harm them, but even they did it based on the threats made by North Korea.  We are defending our ally from an escalating threat.  North Korea isn't hinting that they will nuke the united states or south korea, they are flat saying it.

Don't buy the North Korean propaganda   We aren't exactly poking them with a stick.  We aren't victimizing them.  They are digging their own hole to lie in. The are isolated by their own free will.  Even trade with the south was continuing to operate up till they decided it wouldn't anymore.  And really, shouldn't they be angry at the UN, including China?  I mean, China had veto power to stop the sanctions, they chose not to.

China is playing the, "Oh please God, don't let this happen" card.  Nobody wins in a US/China war.  Nobody. Can't argue with them at all.

/We did, however, move an aircraft carrier into the region.  That's a big deal.  I'm surprised we haven't heard anything from NK about that.  To me, that's an interesting sign.  See, we've heard about matching threats with defenses etc, but nothing really about this.
