I might could see the new Frank Drebin being played by Liam Neeson (with a hairpiece similar to Leslie Nielsen's hair).

But I think they need to forego this and focus on rebooting Spider-Man or something...

Also, No. Just No, David Zucker. You enjoy your piles of money and leave well enough alone.

According to wikipedia:"In 2008, he was found guilty and sentenced to 33 years' imprisonment, with a minimum of nine years without parole.". But that doesn't mean they can't film his parts in prison. I still think he will be a viable addition to the cast.

And this:
www.cultreviews.com

The zany parody movie that asks the question: why does Michael Moore hate America? Because obviously Michael Moore hates America, because he's making all of those movies that ask questions.

Zucker has fallen into the David Mamet/Dennis Miller vortex of suck that happens when talented individuals turn conservative. If he were to do another Naked Gun, I'm sure it would be full of 'subtle' 'humor' against liberals.

"There's room for a 'Naked Gun' style. A bumbling guy in a position where he's respected. ... I want to do the character, but not the specific [job]. Not 'Naked Gun.'"

i would be okay with this.  it would be great to see more movies with the kind of straight-faced absurdity that made naked gun and airplane so brilliant.  i love that kind of humor.  if zucker could make a new movie in that style i would love to see it.

The only person I can think of that can conceivably approach Neilsen's Drebin right now is Ryan Stiles, but he's no where near the dramatic actor Neilsen was.

Granted, Ed O'Neill probably could pull it off as well and actually has the dramatic chops and impeccable comic timing of Neilsen, but he's a bit old now for the role I'd think.

I had to see the movie a second time to catch the follow-up line.

CSB: My late brother had ALS, and that film was one of the last movies I took him to before he was confined to bed. When Neilsen delivered that line, I was laughing hard and looked over to see my brother was gasping for breath. I put his oxygen mask on for a moment or two. He caught his breath and waved off the mask, saying: "Jeeze, I can't believe he actually said that. That's the funniest line ever." Always wanted to meet Neilsen to thank him for that moment of pure hilarity for my brother. /CSB

I just noted on the Point Break remake page that on top of Red Dawn, Total Recall, Footloose and Carrie, they also want to remake Flatliners, Jumanji, The Rocketeer and Dirty Dancing.

We really need to go 5 years without a single remake. Not only do a lot of these movies fit where they're at now, I've seen them all, I want NEW shiat.

I started complaining that Hollywood was just remaking a bunch of shiat and that really they could go to the damn library and find thousands of stories worth of screen time. I used to think that was sound advice, but then we ended up getting shiat like Twilight and the upcoming Mortal Instruments - City of Bones

Yeah, instead of a remake of Naked Gun or Airplane, you could just do something in the same style (if you can find a replacement for LN to carry it), but do it in a hospital setting, or politics, or a dozen other settings that are just as easy to write similar comedies against, but means you aren't retreading the same area for jokes, and won't be as harshly criticized if you fail to capture the original well enough.

Essentially a remake (of something popular/well known) is a way of cheaping out on the advertising (as you get the media to carry remakes as a "story" to rile up/interest fans of the original), but it means artistically you are almost guaranteeing failure and that even when a lot of people watch it, mostly they will give a negative opinion due to comparisons with the original.

bel4sucks: Damn you "men" will biatch about anything.  Not everything in this world revolves around your opinions, as much as that is gonna shatter your world view.  The farked up part is that when you were kids, you got dumb movies like these.  You got remakes.  You got corny ass horror movies.  But every time someone dares to try and make one of these types of movies for someone other than you, here come the critics, the biatches, the constant complainers.  You wanna know the real reason these movies keep getting made, despite your incessant biatching?  Because most of you twats are way out of the demographic of actual movie attendees.  Or you just steal it online.  Next time, try just shutting the hell up for once in your miserable lives.  If you got to enjoy it as a child, or a young adult, then who the hell are any of you to deny the same experience to the generations younger than you.  Either that, or shut the fark up and start getting funding to make your own movies.  But nahhh, that would require effort and talent, when you can just biatch in every thread on fark.

Dear Rob Schneider, despite the fact I am dead does not mean you can crawl out from under your rock.

Signed,
Roger Ebert

Beats me. I suppose there could have been a re-make of "Birth of a Nation" but it slipped past me.

CognaciousThunk: ChewbaccaJones: PandaPorn: If they have the balls they should rehire OJ.

If they had real balls they would bring back Leslie Nielsen to star in it.

It'll take some Hollywood magic to do that... Nielsen croaked a couple years ago.

/RIP, Shirley

/that was the joke :)

Rhett Khan: NO. Leslie Nielsen WAS the Naked Gun franchise.

This would be like when they tried to make Pink Panther movies without Peter Sellers.

Thank god that never happened.

/Would be as bad as making a sequel to Highlander

That's crazy. No one would ever do that.

"Who are you? And how did you get in here?!"

"I'm the locksmith. And I'm a locksmith."

Still my favorite Drebin moment for some reason.
