Messi is a great striker, but without Xavi, he wouldn't have the ball to begin with.

Messi has been playing great for Argentina in qualifying and there he has to be both striker and playmaker.

Both are great players, but Messi makes Xavi more than the other way around.  If Barca had another striker at Messi's level, Messi could fill in for Xavi and Barca wouldn't miss a beat.

I haven't been watching their current qualifying run.. But historically.. This statement is incorrect.  That's why the joke is:

Q: How do you stop Messi from scoring?
A: Put an Argentina jersey on him.

Well there you go.  In qualifying he has 7 goals and 2 assists in 9 matches.  Overall in the past year internationally he has 14 goals in 14 matches.

He had an awful coaches previously.. they seem to have got their offense together in the past year with the new coach.

When it comes to making judgements on the playing ability of Spanish midfielders, it is always wise to rely on the opinion of the Daily Fail

Michael Bradley went 57/58 passing for the USMNT at Azteca during the 0-0 WCQ match a few weeks back, I thought that was pretty impressive. But, yeah, when Xavi is on his game, he's incredible to watch.

Of course Xavis did better than Beckham, Beckham is so old and busted even the MSL didn't want him any more.
