Arthur Jumbles: She really is justified.

This is why when this kind of shiat happens I'd like to see the president take a little break from the usual politics and shiat like that and just roll up into Chicago in THE BEAST with full military honor guard as well as every Secret Service guy they can call up, like 1000 people with uniforms, medals, suits, and rifles, with news helicopters filling the sky and people thronging in the streets and march right up to the mayor's office with all these freakin' people around and live on international television just plop down at the mayor's desk, put his feet up on it, and say "Lucy, you got some 'splainin to do." and then tear him a new one so big we can advertise the remains of the mayor's rectum as Grand Canyon 2: Electric Boogaloo.

Not just this case, but if it can happen to one woman, it can happen to other people, and probably has, and the president should really just step in like Zeus and pretty much warn them they're in violation of state and federal laws and by god if they don't want to spend the rest of their natural lives in solitary confinement in Gitmo they should clean up their act. Party's over.

Short of that kind of overwhelming show of force and a few scape goats, I don't think shiatholes of corruption will clean up their act. Chicago's been a lost cause since before prohibition. I'm sure it's a lovely town to eat and drink in, but stories like this pop up so often it's clear they're as crooked as a staircase with scoliosis.

Learn this lesson, and learn it well Farkers, NEVER give away a car titled in your name, and NEVER, EVER, let someone drive with your license plates. I had an old junker minivan that I gave away on the condition that my "buddy" title the vehicle in his name. So I signed the title, handed it over, and forgot about it. Farker never bothered to title the thing in his name. I only found out when I got the renewal for the license plates. I told him that he needed to title the car in his name, or give it back. Then I learned that he was letting his friend drive the car; someone I didn't know. I was P*ssed! Then when I told him "just title it in his name!" he told me he couldn't because he lost the title that I'd signed.

At that point I said that I wanted the car back, or I was going to report it stolen. I had to have a real friend drive me 40 miles one way to get it back, only to find it sitting with two flats. The mother farker who had it, slashed two tires! Why only two, I'll never know. Regardless, I jacked it up, took off the tires, and got cheap replacements at a local junk yard. The coward never showed his face.

Karma kind be kind though.... in weirdish ways. About a year latter I still had the thing and while I was stopped at a red light a semi cut the corner too sharp while making a turn and took the front end off. in. very. slow. motion.

I got a thousand dollars from the semi truck's insurance company to total the thing out.

/wow, that turned in a "cool story bro"
//how did that happen?

The judge ended up dismissing the lawsuit after concluding that Fitzgerald's attorney hadn't done all he could do to first fight the tickets with the city's Administrative Hearings Department, but he gave Fitzgerald's attorney about another month to refile the lawsuit while urging all the parties in the meantime to try to reach a settlement.

StrangeQ: Yep, I had a farking pig pull that on me once. One pulls me over for not displaying my front tags, writes me a citation. I get back on the road and don't even make it a quarter of a mile before I pass another pig that had just finished pulling someone else over. He sees me go by, jumps into his car, chases me down and tells me he saw me driving without a front tag. I show him the ticket I just received, he says well, you know, I could write you another one...

/he didn't
//fark him anyway

"So there I was, driving all illegal and shiat, when this farking fascist has the nerve to call me on it! Can you believe that crap? So after he writes me a citation, I go ahead and continue driving. What are they gonna do, cite me again? They're only allowed to write you one ticket a day, it's in the rules. Next thing I know, another pig sees me driving illegally, and he pulls me over! Goddamn! So I tell him to fark off, I've already hit my ticket quota. He tells me that I'm still driving illegally, and that he is allowed to keep writing tickets until I stop, then gives me a warning and lets me go. I sure showed that fascist. Anyway, fark the police."

Rik01: I saw something like that happen down here. Along a main highway I used to take to work, a compact, older car broke down and was pulled onto the shoulder of the road by a patch of woods.

As the days went by, tickets started appearing on the windshield. More and more tickets. The tag vanished. More tickets. Someone smashed out the drivers side window. More tickets. Someone smashed the rear window. Even more tickets. Days turned into weeks and finally, after about a month, the car vanished.

I think the city towed it to impound, where they could charge the owners $50 or $60 a day storage fees.

I once got a ticket for an expired inspection sticker and, upon talking to my brother, who was a cop, found out that I could drive down the road and get another ticket for the same thing from a different cop -- even if I showed him my current ticket. He said I could get tickets all day long or until I got the car inspected.

Cities get downright nasty when it comes to revenue.

Were you actually assuming that if you got a ticket for the failed inspection you were absolved from further tickets for that offence?

Mr. Coffee Nerves: I am not in any way defending the parking asspipes who never bothered to question a car clearly abandoned in the lot sitting under a snowdrift of tickets and just said "Yup. Illegal. Better add another ticket to the pile," but at what point did this woman *not* call the police or the airport authority or United or even the local TV news and say "My car is trapped in a lot accumulating tickets and I cannot get at it?"

She did, to no avail. Here's the original November, 2012 thread. The article gives more details than the one for this thread.

Yes they did. And I'm glad she didn't accept it. You don't negotiate with terrorists, even if the terrorists are the government.

gameshowhost: How does a vehicle not get towed/impounded at some point before racking up even, say, four-figures in fines?

It's Chicago.
