In a country of over 300 million? No.

This stuff would not even have been reported a few years ago. It's that guns are the new black right now and the news networks have 24 hours to fill that anybody even cares.

Then how come it doesn't happen in other countries?  You know...places where all the crazies aren't heavily armed and there isn't a "gun culture" that encourages them to solve all their problems with their little bang bang toys?

(oops..think i answered my own question....)

All's well that ends.

Wait, if the suspect's corpse is still in the house, and only one officer was injured, why two ambulances with "people working on somoene" in them?

So I guess that guys home can probably be had at a discounted rate now, maybe I should check it out

Precision Boobery: Oh, so the firefighters are finally getting a taste of how it feels and they don't like it?  Boo-hoo, why don't you go cry all over another innocent fire?  It's about time someone stood up for fire.  Keep fighting the good fight, firefighterfighter!

I feel bad for "Funny" voting this.

OK, now I feel weird beause when I started posting stupid stuff in this thread that guy was still alive, and now a few minutes later, I'm still sitting here at work and that guy is dead. That's kind of depressing.

Too bad there wasn't a non-lethal option for getting control of the situation. Everyone has bad days and stupid ideas.

Earlier in the thread, someone said one police officer, one firefighter injured.  I can't view the feed while I'm at work, but it sounds logical enough.

ParaHandy: What we need is more armed firefighters, and fire safety marshals trained in taking out members of the public of colour.

I agree.  They should be all trained and armed with automatic defibrillators for every situation.

They know the suspect is dead and they're still not allowing people back into the neighborhood. I wonder how many carpets now have dogshiat on them, and if they cut electricity to the neighborhood how many tropical fish are dead?

Good luck suing them.

The response to this was ridiculously over the top.

There WAS a nonlethal option, though.  The guy wanted his utilities turned back on... so have the utilities reconnected, wait for the firefighters to come out, then go in there and taze the fark out of him.

But of course, I'm not the one making the decisions here.

According to the debriefing - an officer was injured by cross fire.
A firefighter was injured by the flash bomb used to gain entry to the home.

A fire fighter and a
police officer walk into a bar, bartender says why the long face? (The police officer was Sarah Jessica Parker from striking distance)

ontariolightning: firefighters were not targets back a few years a go...

Bullshiat. They've been targets since the late 70s. It's one of the reasons everyone, Firefighter or EMS, gets trained to the awareness level in domestic terrorism operations.

The debriefing was weird - the guy would speak and then wanted to walk back on what he said when the reporters were pressing for more info.

Yeah - from what I could gather - the injuries weren't life-threatening. He thought one officer was shot in either the hand or the shoulder and the firefighter had minor wounds from the flash bomb. The remaining officers were being treated for the superficial wounds from the flash bomb, too (but at the scene).

So maybe some debris or minor burns sustained by the firefighter?

Canton: Awesome T-Shirt: Canton: The_Sponge: It depends on the department.  IIRC, members of the LAPD always work in pairs.

Awesome T-Shirt: Depends on the agency. Some cars are doubled up depending on how bad the area is, but most ride solo.

ha-ha-guy: I was figuring the place that is so broke they can't field ambulance drivers, likely can't afford to field police in pairs.  One of the first things broke departments seem to do is send people out solo since it halves the payroll costs.

Ahh, okay. Makes sense, thanks.

On the other hand, it might be more cost-effective to send a pair of officers in the event of an ambulance run, than to abandon a car somewhere, to be picked up later (which would also require two drivers, one of whom would drop the other off at the scene.)

/Logistics

It's extremely inefficient and not logical, but they've been doing it that way for 50 years and they're not about to change.

Oh. Brilliant. Tax dollars at work and all that.

Now if they wanted to be really efficient, they would have a second medic or EMT in the ambulance. Then they wouldn't even have to bother sending two cops to a medical call in the first place.

My least intelligent ideas, even if executed upon my most miserable days, would not result in me being justifiably shot by a law enforcement agent.

TommyDeuce: don't pull a gun on them, pull a lawyer.

Guns are a lot cheaper. A system whereby if the government loses in court they're required to pay the defendant 5x their legal expenses might help rectify that.

Oh, and "qualified immunity" is contrary to "equal protection" regardless of what idiots in black robes say.

Oh nope, people were calling for a couple of kids to be tried for murder because the girl committed suicide.

My sources indicate the suspect had a nervous breakdown that morning, after finding a marble in his oatmeal, which may have led to this tragic incident.

That's because if God wanted that guy to have money, He would have made him the owner of a bank, not a poor guy who lost his home. The people who have money only have it because God wants it. He looks into our souls and gives us the lives we deserve.

/some people actually believe this

No no no. They got all that money because they are just. that. good. They built it all themselves and are due every cent they got coming and then some.

did the bank for him to pay more than he could afford and more than the house was reasonably worth?
I almost bought in 2006, but I COULD SEE that that prices were way out of whack.
somebody thought they could jump on the money train, and they were wrong.
