Shadow Blasko: Oh joy... can we go a day without someone snapping?

With firefighters held hostage, I'm more worried about crackling and popping.

ontariolightning: Adolf Oliver Nipples: Shadow Blasko: Oh joy... can we go a day without someone snapping?

In a country of over 300 million? No.

This stuff would not even have been reported a few years ago. It's that guns are the new black right now and the news networks have 24 hours to fill that anybody even cares.

firefighters were not targets back a few years a go...

Sure they were. In fact, that was the primary catalyst in the movie American History X. Nothing new at all.

I do have to say, I wish the media would tape delay this stuff a bit.  For all we know this guy is in the McMansion jerking off to the fact he's finally getting attention for the first time in his miserable life.  There is really no reason I need to see reporters asking questions the cops can't answer due to OPSEC or the fact they just don't know the answer.

codergirl42: Firefighters need guns now. More guns for everyone!

But I want a 60,000 round magazine. No less will do. I should be able to fire non-stop for 1 hour that way.

/well, 3 to 4 round bursts for 1 hour that way
/can I make that 2 60,000 round magazines? In case one jams up on me.

If the firefighters had not had their hands tied by Obama and had long-range artillery, this would never have happened.

Then how come it doesn't happen in other countries?  You know...places where all the crazies aren't heavily armed and there isn't a "gun culture" that encourages them to solve all their problems with their little bang bang toys?

(oops..think i answered my own question....)

Fartbongo bin Muslin al Hadj makes the firefighters shoot water through their hoses. Everyone knows gasoline would be a better solution here.

It seems to be that that's not allowed.

Also, there's somewhere that they can respond to medical calls without the police going in first?  Well, I suppose not anymore...

It's not "gun culture", it's "culture", period. This is not a chicken/egg thing, an inanimate object cannot make people go crazy. And if you have the answer for it all, for why people go batshiat crazy in the United States with enough frequency that we take note of it, you'll be the most famous person on Earth.

NOT WITH YOUR KIDS.
NOT WITH YOUR LOCAL POLICE
NOT WITH YOUR SPOUSE
NOT WITH ANYONE ELSE'S SIGNIFICANT OTHERS

a-farking-lone!!!

Well... I mean... if they're gonna take someone else out, they should start aiming for the Phelps Clan, the actual Klan, terrorists, etc.

I mean... psychos... I'm just loving that energy and motivation! But I'm gonna need you to bottle it up and wait until the next WBC protest.

A Shambling Mound: Thisbymaster: I bet he was the former owner of the house.  But no one is going to blame the banks, nope not one person.

No I'm not going to blame the f*cking bank, you idiot. Sure, it's possible (even likely) this guy's beef has to do with the foreclosure of his home but the bank did not take any hostages. He did.

Regardless of what drove him to them, his actions are his own. Hell, we don't even know why the bank foreclosed on him. You know sometimes they do that because you didn't pay for your f*cking house, not just out of spite or because they had the wrong lot number on some forms.

Do you remember to big to fail?  The banks took the whole USA hostage, all of it.  And no one even went to jail.

Meh; if they were responding to a call from a forclosed home; they should have had police go in first. Squatters tend to be of the take hostages, ask questions later kind of people.

/ I watched a little of world's worst tenants the other day; those guys are just dumb. They have no backup, no observers on the street. That got them held up by a hobo; and their truck stolen.

I think there are lots of places like that, however most of the time a police unit responds as well in case crowd control or anything is needed.  The plus just happen to get there first normally since you have more police cruisers and thus better odds of a police cruiser being closer than an ambulance.

/plus our here our police have EMT-I/85 or I/99 training and a trunk full of medical gear so if they arrive first they can often get started

I know a handful of people who were foreclosed upon, and not one of them took hostages.

Now, in one case, shrimp may have somehow found its way into the HVAC ducts... but taking hostages is going a bit too far.

The agency I volunteer for is probably the oddest. Police always respond to EMS calls because each ambulance is staffed by 1 medic, so when it comes time to transport the officer has to drive the ambulance.

This agency covers an area which has over a million people, too.

Don't know if the story has changed at all since I got home. About an hour ago they reported the nutjob had called 911 because he was having a heart attack. He lied about the symptoms and faked any agony. Gwinnett County SWAT is on the scene and they DKWTF he wan'ts.

/I just hope a sniper has a clear shot and pulls the trigger. Don't see a point in my tax money keeping the nutjob around.

From The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Link

Firefighters responded to a medical call at the home and shortly after arrival, around 3:10 p.m., they were taken hostage
A Gwinnett County Sheriff's deputy at the scene said that the gunman had faked a heart attack to elicit fire department response, and that he was upset because his house was being foreclosed upon.

WTF

So what you're saying is I whack some old lady on the back of the head, call 911, act like I'm a good citizen calling in a woman having a heart attack, and wait for my free unattended police cruiser to appear?

I thought so too; but, then they'd have to have a ridiculously high location budget. I'd like to think people aren't that dumb; but, people constantly prove that assumption wrong.
