Meeting human needs in the present while actively maintaining the environment so that the needs of future generations are preserved.

That's the idea in principle. I'm sure once policy makers and lobbyists get a hold of it it'll look pretty different.

It means giving a crap about future generations.  Which I guess would be socialism to conservatives.

On Monday, the Republican-controlled Missouri House of Representatives passed an Agenda 21 ban, following a debate that included discussion of whether the state should also ban space aliens.

Holy crap, subby is right.  I thought it would be a troll or an exaggeration until I read the text of the bill.

I guess mandatory hazardous waste dumping is next.

Honestly, is there a logical reason to oppose sustainable development as an ideological principle that doesn't include some herpaderp about God making sure resources were forever abundant?

Our economies are continuing to grow exponentially and they're derived and based upon finite resources. Whether things run out this generation or in my grand-children's time, it's still going to happen.

It burdens fossil-fuel companies, and those companies employ a lot of politicians, I mean good people of Kansas.

I think that's just show; the real reason is purely corporatist and has nothing to do with "freedom" or "sovereignty."

That's something else I've never really understood. Why the intense hatred for the UN in the States? I mean, sure they aren't perfect and are just as liable to fark things up as any other organization, but it's like they honestly believe the UN is building some secret mind control device in the foothills around Geneva or something.

The UN should send out a decree that bans jumping head-first into running wood-chippers.
It would be funny watching these corn-fed ass-tards shredding themselves into a red pulp out of spite.

It means building secret landing pads for the black helicopters and putting coded messages on the backs of all traffic signs so that Fartbongo's jack-booted UN-ion thugs can take away our guns and force us to gay marry turtles.  Obviously.

It has nothing to do with adjusting zoning laws so that grocery stores and other shops are located close to residential areas in order to reduce travel costs, minimize pollution, and reduce the rate at which non-renewable resources are consumed.

Short sightedness truly is the hallmark of conservative thought.

"Cram it, hippie! We're banning sustainable fishing".

You really can't talk about the UN without bringing up the space aliens who control it. The thing I don't get is, why would the UN be against Global Warming? Reptiles are cold blooded, and you'd think they would be in favor of such a thing. This is why we need a frank discussion of the issues, to understand thier motives so we can better protect ourselves.

Getting a kick out of this since our editor pretty mucn banned the use of the word "sustainable" in our magazine. (its technically not really banned... you are just required to explain what sustainable means in the specific case you are discussing). Too many lazy people just use that word  to get out of actually expalining stuff. "Empowerment" is also banned for the same reason.

There are other organisms on this planet who rapidly consume all available resources with thought to the consequences.

The real question: Is humanity smarter than a bacterium?

Does your bill also prevent MONDO XTREME socialistic philosophy?

I am pretty disconnected from the beliefs of religious nut-jobs, but surely people don't actually believe that? I  am having such as hard time comprehending that anyone anywhere is actually that stupid that I might actually need to unplug my brain and restart my system... Seriously, how farking stupid must you be to honestly believe that no resources anywhere on earth will ever run out, its all provided for my God. How do these people explain world hunger?

I...just... I don't even know what to say to that.
