(Washington Post)   Virginia's Governor Bob "The Trans-V" McDonnell would like you to know that he had nothing to do with spending $15,000 of campaign donor money on his daughter's wedding, even though the caterer's $3,500 refund check came straight to him   (washingtonpost.com) divider line 79

Stoj: These people should all be shot.  What a joke.

Oh gifts to your family members from donors aren't reportable?

What a joke.

Works for Clarence Thomas.

Jim_Callahan: The difference is that Texas' business-incentives fund is above-board. It's not "open about it" in the sense of being shameless, it's open about it in the sense that the authorization of the funds and their use to incentivize businesses to relocate have been explicitly approved by vote of congress.

But don't you DARE ask for an audit of the fund!

Reminds me of Chris Christie's actions regarding privitization of halfway houses in New Jersey. No government oversight. No accountability.

the refund check of more than $3,500 went to McDonnell's wife
But the law does not require the disclosure of gifts to the official's family members.

I wonder if McDonnell and the missus have a joint checking account.

The Evil That Lies In The Hearts Of Men: Fair enough, we can't extrapolate one district of republicans to the whole of the US. However I note that in the last round of presidential primaries a man who is on his third marriage after cheating on his previous two wives did very well with the 'family values' crowd who make up a lot of the GOP and the eventual winner was a man who had a very long and complicated financial history that the GOP base tried very very hard to avoid looking into at all

Again, context. Newt won two state primaries, his home state and the state next to his home state. At that rate, McConnell will still lose by a wide margin in a 2016 campaign.

I think that number is really 50, actually.

you're assuming the GOP rank and file give a shiat about campaign finance corruption.

Why should they? the Democrats don't.

You don't know scumbags then. Try Martin OweMalley across the river from you. As a former Virginian, I'd take McDonnell over O'Malley any day of the week. At least you're running a budget surplus down there, aren't trampling all over constitutional rights, and have a balance between NoVA and the rest of the state on the federal level.....

tallen702: aren't trampling all over constitutional rights

Like the Right To Shove Something Up Your Coont.   McDonnell has been way out in front on making sure that is respected.  He's working on the Right To Receive Kickbacks From Companies Accused Of Stealing From The State even as we speak.

The name of the company owned by the guy that cut the $15,000 check seems awfully familiar.   Isn't this the same company that makes up Kenny the Kook's entire stock portfolio and only reported tangible asset?

I am just going to leave this classic here:

Murdering, Lying, Thieving, Rat F*** Pieces of Sub-Amphibian Sh**....

...mendacious, death-loving, frothing, lamprey-mouthed, inhuman, abominable, atrocious, verminous, rapacious, sadistic, bullying, invasive, grasping, psychopathic, twisted, warped, animalistic, belly-crawling, mouth-breathing, illiterate, innumerate, know-nothing, imbecilic, sheep-raping, horror movie extras masturbating into wads of money while fantasizing about war collateral damage...(inhale)...puppy-torturing, vacuous, mindless, nihilistic, evil, diseased, soulless, morally bankrupt, greedy, insecure, envious, kleptomaniac charnel-house mascots stewing in universal hatred for all life...(inhale)...toxic, ugly, bestial, humorless, loveless, compassionless, demonic human-shaped ruins forever slouching toward Bethlehem in search of some fresh nightmare to wreak on the defenseless via other people's money and heroism...(inhale)...Satanic monkey-shiat-throwing, cowardly, chickenhawkish, parasitic, baby's-candy-stealing, wife-beating, minority-purging, syphilitic Confederate poltergeists with erectile dysfunction...

...perverse, prurient, crocodile-eyed, necrophiliac mass-producers of human misery and gleeful destroyers of truth, justice, and the American way...sepulchre-hearted human deserts walking the Earth only to look for more victims...silly, stupid, ignorant bastards proud of every good thing they've never done, every person they've never been considerate toward, every fact they've never learned and will never acknowledge, and every virtue they will never possess or even attempt to comprehend...preternaturally drunken, bleary-eyed, zombie-like, empty vessels who wander aimlessly until given instruction by their masters...unthinking, unquestioning, unfeeling diabolus ex machina mockeries of the human condition, perpetually acting out a burlesque of the basest and least interesting psychological dysfunctions...
...face-chewing, self-devouring, medieval barbarian museum dioramas and depraved Nazi homunculi preserved in formaldehyde to frighten children...sick, ominous, loathsome,  Nosferatu-impersonating Gollum-acolytes feasting on the flesh of our society while complaining about its taste...tax-evading, sommelier-abusing, election-buying, yacht-aficionado hemmorhoids flying flags of convenience and berating their six-year-old Chinese employees for requesting bathroom breaks...
Republicans, you vile, repulsive, scum.  You're not leading this country.  You're not contributing to this country.  You're not even part of this country.  You are the maggot-ridden rot that arises in this country's damaged flesh; you are the vultures constantly picking at us to see if we're weak enough yet to become your next meal; you create problems where none would otherwise exist, just to further weaken America and quicken your own insatiable appetites; you are garbage, and you are traitors.  And you are not welcome in this country anymore.

Yeah, um, how many Marylanders have been threatened with trans-vaginal rape for an unnecessary medical procedure?

Marcus Aurelius: He got a refund from his caterer?

Now THAT sounds fishy.

looks like a good old-fashioned kickback:
The catering company was owned by Todd Schneider, who had trained with Martha Stewart and was hired by the McDonnells to serve as the chief chef of the Executive Mansion in 2010.
Schneider left his job in 2011 amid a Virginia State Police investigation into alleged improprieties in kitchen operations. He was recently charged with four counts of embezzlement. Through an attorney, he declined to comment.
The catering documents indicate that the company offered the McDonnells a significant discount for the event. They were charged $30 a head for food that would generally cost $50 per guest. Discounts were also provided for equipment rentals and staffing costs. The documents also indicate that alcohol was to be supplied by the client.

well, given all that i'm willing to GUARANTEE McDonnell won;t be re-elected as governor.

/Va's 1-term limit for governors is the most asinine thing about often incredibly asinine state.

The same.

even as he has continued to pursue the very policies it describes.

Smooth sailing? Not by a long shot. He's pandered to the Tea Party but he is turning the tractor knob as quickly as he can to steer it back to the middle of the road. Rural Virginians generally have short memories for candidates with an (R) by their names.

Yeah, that's not going to happen. Santorum was mainly a "none of the above" vote for people who couldn't stand Romney, and looked in horror at the rest. Seriously, have there ever been three candidates less viable than Bachmann, Cain and Gingrich? The first two were so easily ridiculed that you felt bad doing it, and the third is one of the least popular people on the planet.

Some GOP governor will run who ISN't zonked on painkillers the way Rick Perry was, and sweep all those sideshow acts aside. I still think the Democrats win in 2016, given Hillary as a candidate or someone who can beat her in the primaries, because the demographics keep trending that way.

Oh y'all mean RAPE by Proxy.

Proxy rape is an actual crime. Its like where you tell someone to kill that particular person and hey the cops arrest you for ordering the murder.

MFK: Just remember citizens. Laws are for the rest of us, not our betters.

I laughed my ass off - he's not just a liar, but he's a stupid liar, at that. "No one would ever look at the paperwork for my daughter's wedding, nor would they actually examine a canceled check, so I can blithely lie about this clear violation of Virginia law to, well, everyone!"

I understand that politicians are crooked. I'm willing to accept a reasonable amount of graft. What I'm unwilling to accept is someone in the office too stupid to reasonably cover his or her tracks in doing so - someone dumb enough to fail this easily on something this simple, is someone dumb enough to make really bad legislative decisions in the name of his constituency. Virginia voters should find that offensive.
