The only way to stop a bad guy from giving a bribe is for a good guy to give an even larger bribe.

Can anyone tell me the difference between bribery and lobbying?

See...bribery is when you give someone money in exchange for favors, and lobbying is when you give someone money in exchange for favo...you know, I actually don't know the difference.

as long as government continues to make legislation that affects businesses, businesses will continue to try to influence government.  it is as simple as that.

Bribery is where you give someone money secretly, lobbying is when you give them money openly and then count it as an expense on your taxes.

No, it's bribery when you don't approve of it, lobbying when you do.

Lobbying gets you a neat little ID card so it's all official.

Then clearly we need more legislation to address this, and if that fails we need more legislation, followed by additional legislation, more new laws, legislation, legislation, baked beans and legislation, and if you're opposed then Somalia or something.

"A crisis is a terrible thing to waste."

How many horrible knee-jerk laws has this sentiment produced?

Did you know that you're actually supposed to report bribes received as income according to Federal law?

/ I'm ashamed of my state.

You're supposed to report all illegal income. Though nobody would do that, so why have the law?

It's so that you can be charged with a federal crime for breaking quite a few laws which normally wouldn't be. Selling drugs, prostitution, bribery, extortion. If they get you with one, they'll get you for tax evasion as well and then use the fear of the federal crime (Not properly reporting your taxes) as an incentive to agree to a plea bargain.

Spoiler Alert. The US Supreme Court will not like this attack on Commercial Free Speech.
