(The New York Times)   This is it, folks. US and Japan brace for impact. Will Best Korea launch a missile as a "test"? Will the US respond with force? Will China smack a biatch? This is your official "drop it like it's Un" April 10th discussion thread   (nytimes.com) divider line 165

elchupacabra: doglover: elchupacabra: you're gonna see Japan, SK, and a few other countries start debating the need.

Oh please.

Perhaps I should have highlighted debating.  Japan's not going to just shrug and carry on if NK -- more unstable than China -- becomes a bigger nuclear power than it is now.  You may be right, but let's not trivialize the possibility, at least acknowledge this is a feasible outcome.

North Korea, IF it restarts its breeder reactor and carries on, can produce enough fissile material to build one bomb per year. Meanwhile, the sanctions are really starting to bite now that China's on board (which is why we're seeing the current hissy fit). The odds that the NK regime could hang around long enough to build a real nuclear arsenal is pretty much zero. Next big famine, they're done.

I hope you're right, but we're relying on information coming from one of the most secluded nations in the world, if not in history.

You know what would be totally biatchin'? Trick out a suped-up Hyundai Veloster, paint it bright orange with that flag on the roof. And put the name "Gen. Park Ho Lee" on the back.

"Round about then, Boss Jong Un was trying to get the ol' Park boys in a heap of trouble. LEEEEE-HAWWWRRR!!"

/Stock Veloster Turbo has about 30 percent better power-to-weight ratio than a stock 383-equipped '68 Charger.

That's some damned good insight.  A little photoshop-fu (beyond my meager skills) could make that into something phenomenal.

 Are we at war yet?

WeenerGord: Are we at war yet?

Technically we never stopped being at war; but according to the BBC we're not shooting at each other again, yet.  Although, that gives me an idea for a Korean tensions status website.  It would be similar to the Abe Vigoda status website, except instead of "Is Abe Vigoda alive?" it would answer a question along the lines of "Are North and South Korea currently shooting at each other?"

WeenerGord: Are we at war yet?

We haven't been at War since WW2.

To be at war we must first declare war, which only congress can do, which they haven't done since WW2.

mbillips and  fireclown

I've been putting that post in almost every Best Korea thread I can and you two are the Weeners on it.

mbillips: I could see PSI playing 'Cooter'.

fireclown: Like you, my shoppe skills are not impressive.  But come on, this is Fark.  Surely someone has the ability to take my idea and run with it.

I wonder if the Blue Angels, Fleet Weeks, Thunderbirds, etc getting cut right in the middle of the Sequester while this whole Norky thing is going on really is just a coincidence.  Not to go all conspiracy theorist, but it's possible that North Korea is taking advantage of the sequester to think that it's a good time to brag about their military first policy while we're trying to save money on military spending.
