I wondered why there was black cloth draped over the Ace Ticket offices this morning.

Only when they mercifully end.

Can we blow up Fenway now and build a modern stadium?

Went to fenway a couple years ago on memorial day. Sat for cheap along the first base line. The stadium was at best 1/4 full.

Blow up Fenway and rebuild a modern replica on the same site. Just use a couple of seats and pillars from the old place. The question is, where do they play for 2 seasons?  I say Montreal's Olympic Stadium.

thank god - moved away now but would like to think that when I go back home to visit I can catch a game if i want to, and not have to fight for tickets with the pink hats, tourists from Des Moines and others there "for the experience"

You shut your whore mouth! You kids these days (I'm sure you're actually 50, but just roll with me) wanting comfortable seating, non-obstructed viewing, and getting spoiled on winning two world series in the past decade. Back in my day they called it "rustic" and they didn't have urinals, they had troughs and we liked it!

However, the "sell out streak" was complete bull, I went to a Tuesday afternoon game last year (vs. Mariners) which was supposedly sold out but there was more than enough seating around for me and the gf to move up about 10 rows in the bleachers and no one complained.

FTFA:

The Sox said last year that they base their attendance on the number of tickets distributed, not actual attendance at the game.

I know this is common but just so I understand, "attendance" is not based on "attendance". I want to see some new numbers - like the ones for actual attendance. We know they know the number, so why won't they tell us? We can still celebrate the team that gives away the most tickets, it will just be a different category.

Also, to the mariners ticket guy - please stop calling me at work. Yes, we took the company to a ballgame about five years ago. When will we come back? We'll come back when the team is sold and or either Chuck Armstrong or Howard Lincoln or both are fired. Until then, not a chance.

It would be a big farking deal if it were actually true. I can assure you that the people who actually attend a lot of games there know damn well they've had a ton of non-sellouts during the supposed streak.

2013-04-10 01:12:21 PM
At least they're playing their prospects to fill their team's weaknesses, instead of doubling down on the Vernon Wells and Travis Hafners and Lyle Overbays of the world.

I mean, I still think the Sox will be bad this year, but at least it's not quite so self-inflicted.

2013-04-10 01:15:48 PM
The streak has been complete BS since it came out that it was because of StubHub and Ace Ticket.  Technically it was before even, but we just didn't know yet.

Either way, the sooner the Pink Hats and WEEItards lose sway with the organization, the better.

\yes, I know WEEIs getting killed by 98.5, it's the same mentality on a different channel

I've been saying that about Wrigley for the past 5 years and I keep getting slagged by my fellow Cubs fans for it. The place is a dump, the concourses are tiny, and the only history there is of losing and disappointment. Unfortunately, the Old Style induced beer goggles prevent most of the other fans from seeing the fat, ugly hog they keep trying to get with.

Yep. You can build new baseball stadiums that are traditional yet modern. Not everything has to be gaudy like New Yankee Stadium. Petco in San Diego,  AT&T park in San Fran, and PNC in Pittsburgh are all on my list of places to catch a game. Camden Yards in Baltimore is one of the best parks I've ever been to.

Unless you diehard fans plan to go to every Red Sox home game, I don't get the hate for the "pink hat fans" and every out of towner who goes to a Sox game. You realize if the attendance figures sucked you'd have a shiatty team with owners looking to move the team to a more profitable city? You should be proud to have a sports team people want to see instead of some crap team like the Pirates or the Marlins.

Yeah, pretty much this.  The "pink hat fans" are often wives/girlfriends tagging along with their significant others.  How is that annoying?  So what if they don't happen to know much about baseball.  My wife tags along with me to every Saints game I watch, and barely knows anything about football.

The only thing that annoys me is obnoxious fans who you just can't tune out.

But yeah, if someone attends a game they honestly don't care much about... tune them out if its that big of a deal.  All it means is your team sold one more ticket.  That's a good thing.

Saying that Nebraska is a pit implies that there is some variation in its topography.

I get that to a point.  The Red Sox are not moving, let's just get that out of the way.  (and I'd say the same for the Steelers, Yankees, Cowboys, Celtics, etc.).

The term pink hat can be a bit ambiguous - my wife has a pink "B" on her cap, I wouldn't let her go the full pink, LOL

I use the term to refer to people who come to the park ONLY to see the field, to take a lot of pictures (while standing up during an AB), who will not put the F'N phone down during the game.  Generally people who have no clue there is a game on and are being disruptive to those of use who pay to jam our asses into the same old tiny seats - some facing the wrong way - to try to cheer for and watch the game.

I'm sure if I went back home and started to try to get the wave going at the MFA or start cheering "Let's Go Van Gogh" at the top of my lungs those patrons wouild have a few choice nicknames for me

//although come on, that would be funny

I've always equated "Pink Hat" with terrible college kids with rich parents who become fans for 4 years and don't know anyone's name except Big Papi.

That said, if this makes going to a game cheaper then I'm all for it.

Selling out 8 whole games a year for 52 years? Well golly-gee-willickers - that's almost half as many games as the Red Sox "sold out" with their streak, and it only took you 4 times as long to reach that milestone! I bet if you guys reaaalllly try, put your big boy pants on each morning and apply all of your blunted, yokel abilities, you guys might eclipse the Red Sox streak in another 60 years! Woohoo! TATERTOT CASSEROLE FOR EVERYONE!

But still, that's impressive - especially given how much competition there is for those Bumfark, WI dollars.
