My subconscious probably automatically thought that to be the case considering it included, "turns it in to the police".

I don't think turning a bag of found money in to the police is really the "right" thing to do, in many cases. Doubly so if it's a briefcase full of found money.

It boggles my mind too how people can lose money like this. I have had different sums on me from less then what is mentioned in the article to many times what is mentioned and in all cases it was constantly in the front of my mind that I had it on me and was constantly aware of it. Me thinks if you lose any amount then ya didn't really need it apparently.

The 25 year old me would have agreed with you.

The 40 year old me now realizes I can get up because I have to pee and forget to pee before sitting back down.    And my  mind has only STARTED going.

Years ago, my boss in the restaurant would put his bank deposits in a bag, change out of his manager's shirt, and pull a baseball cap on.  He'd walk out the front door, slurping a drink, carrying the bag, looking like all the other customers.  The weight of the money and change looked just like a to-go meal.

But, he never let himself get distracted enough to let go of that bag, until the teller had it.

Also in my wicked, wicked nature. I would NOT turn that money in. I would immediately justify it internally, then sit on the money for about 15 days "in case the owner came looking for it".

I remember the episode of the Sopranos when Steve Buscemi was on and he was out walking around at night and there was a car chase between cops and some drug dealers. The dealers turned the corner tossed the bag with there money and drugs in it at Buscemis feet and free $20 grand for him. I wish that would happen to me I need to move to a shiatter neighborhood.
