Dig up the Billy Idol version sometime.  It'll be worth the effort for you to Google it.

Her piano player is Peter Smith, one of my best friends when I was a kid. He went on to pursue dual careers in jazz and acting, and I watched a CSI episode a while back specifically because he was in it. As it happened, he was the victim that week, and the first thing I saw was his disembodied head...not quite what I was expecting when I first heard he'd be on the show.

From what I've seen of CSI, that's not too unusual.  Gory show.

No, it wasn't. She can't sing that well.

I absolutely love his version, it's just got that little bit of extra umph. Life Of Agony has an interesting version too

Heard this earlier today - or heard part of it at least, until I gave up. The arrangement is just terrible. It changes rhythm almost at random. It's like they were so desperate to make it as different as possible from the original that they deliberately zigged every time the original zagged, whether zigging made sense or not.

Not a bad idea, but certainly a failed attempt.

Now you're just trying to be cute with your "I think they call it," you snot-nosed little punk. Get off my lawn or I'll cut a switch from yonder tree and put you over my knee.

All the music from that movie is older now than the Beatles music was when Beatles music played on "oldies" radio stations in the '80s.

/Give me five bees for a quarter
//oh, god, that "Simpsons" quote is now older than some of the Beatles music was at the time
///gotta go. "Matlock" rerun
////oh, god, that joke is now so old you probably don't even know what "Matlock" was
//adult diapers, prunes, driving through farmers' markets etc.

When I was a kid my dad made me watch Drop Dead Fred because one of his college buddies was one of the dead guys.  It felt embarrassed for my dad and his friend.

This cover, on the other hand, is not good.  The whole reason why the original song is so powerful is because it was the sound of an era.  Take away all the lame echoes, weird synth instrumentals, and slightly too slow pacing, and it's just elevator music.  Same goes for Everybody Wants to Rule the World, which I have stuck in my head thanks to Bioshock Infinite.  Some songs just can't be covered, because it's not the lyrics or the notes that make it amazing, it's that one studio session.

Yep, featured on their first and third albums, respectively.

The lyrics of "Everybody" are deeper than people think. It's not about world conquest, it's about the fear of nuclear war.

"It's my own design, it's my own remorse" - Oppenheimer expressed regret for helping to create the atom bomb

"There's a room where the light won't find us - holding hands while the walls come down" - hiding from radiation in bomb shelters

I think The Bad Plus covered it well instrumentally (if you're into that kind of thing). Link

Molly has a good voice, but she did this song way too bland. She needs to sex it up a mite, and put some ummmmmm, ummmmm, oooooh yeahs in there somewhere.

I guess in show business, it takes these small roles in order to get....

a head.

Wow.  All these comments and no links to her topless scene ?

Don't care how old she is.  Still love her.  Molly Ringwald, Phoebe Cates and Winona Ryder ... probably my three favorite celebrity chicks from back in the day - and all holding up well.

2013-04-10 08:33:27 AM
Listening to it now... well, her voice is good, but jazz?  All the life is sucked out of it.  I could feel my eyelids get heavier as I listened.

What do you think she is, you scrawny earthbag? She's a woman!

2013-04-10 08:52:15 AM
Not the best arrangement and her phrasing is forced. It's like she's trying to swing, but the rhythm section is playing it straight (and boring). Would have been better as a slow organ-trio-esque swinger.

just realized Sowing the Seeds of Love is also Tears for Fears, which I also can't listen too.

I seem to be allergic to Tears for Fears.

Sad to admit, but the 1st concert I ever went to was Tears for Fear when they played at Butler way back in the 80s.

So if you aren't professionally trained in something, you aren't allowed to have an opinion about it? That's complete horseshiat. I don't really enjoy eggplant parmesan - I find the texture of eggplant to be unpalatable - but I'm not a chef, so I'm not allowed to think that? No,  you go fark yourself, sir.

It's also not that much of a stretch to think that the people posting have varying degrees of musical ability, despite the fact that it might not be their day job. Hobbies, how the fark to they work?

I've been in lust with her for years. Like the fist of an angry God. I would give her the most disappointing 19 1\2 seconds of her life.

I think she was a child star in the 70's or something.
She dated the kid Mikey on the Life cereal commercials who died from eating pop rocks and mountain dew.

She and I used to ride the school bus together (elementary school in Sacramento).  Her dad is/was a blind jazz pianist and she used to sing at the Jazz Festival in Old Sacramento with him.  She and another girl used to sing "Tomorrow" from Annie on the bus every...single...day.  She had a good voice but we were ready to choke her after about a week of it.
