Damn that is great for Yahoo...not sure about anyone else

Damn. I forgot my Yahoo login and password more than a decade ago. Maybe I should make a new one so I can take advantage of all the fail coming to the iPhone I will never buy.

2013-04-09 09:05:02 PM
This isn't surprising, considering Apple and Google's relationship. Apple will spin this as it being revolutionary, and millions of people will rush out to buy it.

Dear God NO

Please be one of those shiatty Apple rumors.

That explains all the stupid "yahoo wants to know where you are so we can help you" popups I get every time I go to their homepage using the ipad.

If the iPhone 5 was an uninspired refresh, so is the Galaxy S4. And how can the iPad mini be a "refresh" when they didn't sell one before?

Yes, Jobs is dead. You got one fact right there, so you're above average for the iHater Squad.

2013-04-09 09:52:30 PM
Apple and Yahoo are supposedly in talks about using Yahoo's content from Yahoo Sports (which is fantastic), Yahoo News and other Yahoo websites through Siri. It'd presumably be like how sport scores and stats can pop up in Siri right now-Yahoo would feed more of its content and data to iPhone users.

OMG! TOTAL FAIL!!!!

FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAILLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!

If the past is any indication, Yahoo! better gear up their servers, because every Apple fanboy on Earth is going to use them religiously. In fact, if they license the "i-whatever" trademark and start calling themselves iYahoo! they'll overtake Google again in no time. That's not even to mention the Spanish speakers.

Yes, the S4 is also an uninspired refresh, I'm not sure people would argue that the way they argue against an iPhone 5 being one. Although the 4S was way more uninspired since it didn't even have the increased screen size. The difference is that way fewer Android people line up to trade in their perfectly functioning phones for refreshes. And without Steve Jobs at the reigns, Apple buyers are starting to wane as well because he was a modern day P.T. Barnum.

So Apple is working with Yahoo. Yahoo's search engine is powered by Bing. Bing is Microsoft. Therefore Apple and Microsoft are working together?

Would you prefer to use Yahoo's search engine, which was previously a really terrible index of web sites?

For those of you who are new to this whole "internet" thing... working with Yahoo is the equivalent of being sold to EA...

You're gonna die.

When I was a kid we had to open separate browser instances and type the complete correct url for altavista, yahoo.......remember hoping the browser with porn in it didn't hang a bit when you tried to switch back to the other "work" browser?  Cars didn't even have seatbelts..... I mean there weren't even panic button screensavers back then.

SoCalChris: Apple will spin this as it being revolutionary, and millions of people will rush out to buy it.

Steve Jobs was the source of all that. The company is lost without his uncanny ability to convince the gullible that buying mediocre products would give them an identity and feeling that they're part of a revolution. Now everyone just sees mediocre products.

Will Apples move to integrate yahoo into it's products be a good thing?

Best answers.

1. Oh yeah. totally

2. yes. without a doubt.

3. I can't see it being anything but good.

4. Cabbage

5. I hope so. I love yahoo so much!

Meh. This is integration of Yahoo data in iOS services. Apple will not risk another corporate black eye and replace Google as the default search anytime soon.

Maybe I'm wrong here, but Yahoo is still number 4 on the most visited websites in the galaxy according to Alexa.

So either Alexa is a lying liar or Apple is reaching out to the grandmas and plebians who still live on dial-up and still think Yahoo is a thing.

My brother still uses yahoo mail for his standard email. Not sure if this counts towards that, but I prefer Yahoo Sports to other sports websites. The layout is simpler and less offensive than say, ESPN.

And yet Apple is still having $50 billion *quarters*. Not Yearly revenue, just in 3 months.

I'm not saying Apple is perfect by any means, but it may be a tad premature to think they are in any kind of trouble as a company.

Doomed to die?  No.

Doomed to lose their dominance and just become "One of several major companies in the market" a la Microsoft?  Absolutely.

Also, I'm not some Apple evangelist, I do own an iPad and a MacBook Pro...but also have a dedicated Windows gaming box, and a Linux media server, and an Xbox 360.

It just amuses me how often and how hard people rage on Apple. Just use whatever works for you, and who cares what anyone else uses?

Some of the threads turn into wankfests the likes of which I haven't seen since grade school arguments over SNES vs. Genesis.

They are publicly traded company and the market is losing confidence in them. Good thing they are sitting on their cash wad since it will get really hard to borrow money to crank out the next iThing once there is no investor confidence. Sure, they will be fine, but they will be smaller and injured.

They don't have the expertise to run it though and that would drive up the price. You can't just build a plant and hire a couple of managers to run it. It is a team effort between corperate, engineering/RD, marketing (they have that down), distribution and production. They outsource the last two to save money and because they have no idea how those things work. Sure, they could figure it out, but it would ad cost per unit. The price point they sell at is what people are willing to pay for their iThings every time a new one comes out. Unless they wanted to take a slash to profits (like hell) they would have to raise the price to the point that many of their consumers would be willing to skip devices. This would again, eat into profit.

Apple has marketing, price point and basic functionality down pretty well. However, they have done very little in the way of creating new hardware technologies. They simply package what other companies design and write an OS for it that is functional for 90% of users.

What I would like to know is why they are sitting on such massive cash stores.

Boss key, actually.
