Mega Steve: It never occurred to anyone on the plane to knock him unconscious? After ten minutes of that shiat, you'd think SOMEONE would hit him over the head.

Knocking him out for a few seconds probably wouldn't have helped, and knocking him out for a few hours would have left him permanently injured or dead. A whack from a person who wasn't an expert in concussions would also probably have been done in the wrong way to induce unconsciousness (e.g., over the top of the head) and so if done repeatedly would only have resulted in the man's death or mortal injury.

So, while it is a bit surprising that no one there wrongly thought it was a good idea, it's fortunate that they didn't.
