There's been more than one incident of this caliber, where someone has *NO* history of violence of acting out in this manner, or even being a douche...and they go batshiat on a flight with severely irrational and violent behavior akin to a psychotic break.

I really wonder if there's some contributing factor, because normally drunk people don't act this way. Perhaps these are people who are the rare 'bad drunks' and they just never got as drunk as they did on the plane because of fears of flying (or being stupid). Maybe it's a mix of medication. Maybe something about flying and consumption of alcohol and being afraid does something to some people. IDK, but these types of cases seem to have similarities of outrageousness.

Had a similar but less dramatic event on West Coast flight recently. Drunk guy sitting across the aisle getting progressively agitated and nutty as the flight progressed. By the end of the flight, it was clear to him we were all sheeple for not believing his 9/11 conspiracy theory and was vocalizing loudly and profanely.

Fortunately he got off the plane without incident -- and got to continue his conversation with airport security for his behavior (as well as for smoking in the airplane lavatory).

Like this English guy, before he started raving, this guy said he was doing long hours of shift work -- up to 21 days straight. Makes me wonder if there is not some latent psychosis brought up by that kind of work cycle + drink.

People act this way drunk all the time. This is really the worst of the worst, and under normal drinking circumstances this asshole would have been hauled away from a house party by cops, or thrown into the street by a bouncer. It's just that being stuck on a plane drastically limited the options to properly handle him, and the fight just made him madder and crazier.

When I first read the headline I thought it was a little early in the healing process to be getting in fights. Had to reread it to make sure.

Knocking him out for a few seconds probably wouldn't have helped, and knocking him out for a few hours would have left him permanently injured or dead. A whack from a person who wasn't an expert in concussions would also probably have been done in the wrong way to induce unconsciousness (e.g., over the top of the head) and so if done repeatedly would only have resulted in the man's death or mortal injury.

So, while it is a bit surprising that no one there wrongly thought it was a good idea, it's fortunate that they didn't.

I went to a friend's commencement a Northwestern U a few years back. Bill Cosby was the speaker. He raved on & on about how their college degree does not entitle them to a job, but only to the opportunity to get one -- and then they have to "work the opportunity." But then he has a Doctorate in Education so he's got to be right.

This guy in TFA is a prime example of "working the opportunity" and look what it got him. He didn't even get to fly Mandy. (<- Obscure?)

And speaking of sweaters, it's FINALLY too warm in Lexington, KY to wear one all day. Maybe I'll celebrate by trying yet again for my first blackout. (Last time I got on Fark and typed so long & hard I forgot to keep drinking.)
