The first 25 seconds sound like the soundtrack music on Thelma And Louise.

It's racist, stupid, and bizarre, but not perfectly okay.

"I'm not a racist, just a proud rebel son"
Yeah, racist.

This whole entire discussion is to sell copies of the lame song by creating stupid controversy.

In other news, apparently LL Cool J is relevant again.

So far, I've avoided hearing this. I plan to keep that up.

He's been on NCIS:LA for several years now, so he's popular with the accidental racists.

Now I'm not a man who would mock a promotional stunt by a hillbilly douche artist BUT....

A mix of two of the worst forms of musical expression is never perfectly OK.  Modern Country + Rap?  Yecchh.

Every time I hear Brad Paisley's name, I remember that song he had with the chorus about checking you for ticks.

And then I laugh a hearty, booming, boisterous laugh.

2013-04-09 02:28:04 PM
You guys are being way too harsh. After all, he's just a misunderstood, young, rich White Man from the Southland...bleeccchhh!

There's a word for entertainment like this song, and that word is dreck.

/yeah, all the Yiddish I know, I learned from Mad Magazine

This song is brilliant. All men and women of every color will unite as one in their absolute hatred of it. It's a horrible song. This is kind of like a reverse Wyld Stallyns situation. Except this time the world will unite because of the horror that is "Accidental Racist". Brad Paisley might actually be Ozymandias.

At best, that's means "I'm not a racist, I'm just incredibly ignorant of what my rebel forefathers fought for."

Actually, he's extremely popular right now in a weird sort of way.  NCIS: Los Angeles is among the top 5 shows, and he's routinely picked to host award shows like the Grammys and (IIRC) People's Choice Awards.

Not too bad for a guy whose first name is apparently 'Ladies Love'.

/no, really, his name stands for Ladies Love Cool James, 'James' being his birth name

Haven't heard the song, so i don't know how good it is, but i think the conversation itself, is very pertinent.

Just look at all the people in this thread not wanting to face it...  Where there's smoke, there's fire.

2013-04-09 02:37:31 PM
It's contemporary "country" music. Of course it's stupid.

2013-04-09 02:38:57 PM
This song should be subtitled "Brad Paisley Can't Be Racist, He's Got a Black Friend."

2013-04-09 02:40:12 PM
Accidently racist. shiat. Why don't you just get down on your knees and start sucking some black dick bud?

Remember when old Waylon walked out on "we are the world" when those jackasses wanted to sing the song in Swahili? That's country, proud of who you are and not fixing to take any crap about it. Not this squat to pee whiny garbage.

2013-04-09 02:42:18 PM
I haven't seen a song dissected so thoroughly since American Pie.  Seriously, what the hell?  It's a mindless country jingle.  Newsflash - country and rap play up racial stereotypes for commercial gain. They may not reflect actuality. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that Brad Paisley has never worked as a cowboy.  And LL Cool J has never murdered anyone.  Just a hunch.

propasaurus: "I'm not a racist, just a proud rebel son"
Yeah, racist.

No, he's not.  He's from West Virgina.  He's a son of the rebels who rebelled from the racist rebels in Virginia.  Makes perfect sense.  Like the rest of the song.

2013-04-09 02:46:18 PM
Why is LL Cool J always licking his damn lips?  He's unwatchable.   GET SOME LIP BALM YOU NASTY LIP LICKING MUTHA FUGGA

The B-Side track should be called "Accidental Rapist".

Dude's from Glendale, pretty much the epitome of middle-class suburban. Also well north of the Mason-Dixon line.

Displaying a confederate flag isn't inherently racist, symbols can mean different things to different people.  But not realizing  that one of the (if not most) common meanings of your symbol is a historically racist message suggests a willful ignorance or stunning lack of consideration for your fellow man.

So fine, you're not racist you're just an idiot or an asshole.  If you prefer those labels to the other then knock yourself out.  But in all honesty you're probably racist also/too.

2013-04-09 02:59:22 PM
I heard from a friend that Johnny Rebel is recording a comeback album and Accidental Racist is the first song he recorded although he reworked the lyrics a little bit and called it Intentional Racist.

It was actually occupying troops from Ohio that swung the election that created West Virginia.

Brad Paisley needs to STFU and just play guitar.

I feel that way when i see a black guy wear a nylon beanie...

I spent about five days in WV once for a hiking/camping foray, and I really didn't see that much "scary racist southerner" stuff at all. Granted, we were knee deep in the woods away from most signs of civilzation, but, I think most of WV qualifies as "knee deep in the woods".

I was raised mostly in the sticks of New Hampshire, and for a fairly blue state nowadays, I'm sure some our rugged rural individualists are just as spooky as one can find anywhere else.

listening to this "song" now.  Lyrics about "150 years of tears" after reconstruction aren't going to score him any points.  It'll make the "I don't hate Obama because he's black, but because socialism" crowd a major woody.

One of my best friends is from West Virginia.  Didn't meet a black person till college.  Ironically, our social circle is about 50/50.
