Season 1 of Heroes was pretty awesome. It was the abortion of a season that was the writer's-strike-shortened season 2 that was truly a crime against humanity.

Terry Nation was the shiat.  Wasn't he the first person to write every episode in a single season?

The ship that was basically a 70's Mr. Microphone...always got a kick out of it.

The crapfest started with the first season finale.  That was a huge letdown after the season that led up to it.  And as bad as Season 2 was, the show only got worse from there.

And season 3 got even worse. The season finale in season 1 was a bit of a letdown, but nothing too terrible to make me stop watching or anything... but by the middle of season 2 it was clear the series was probably doomed. Season 3 had me quit after a few episodes in thorough disgust, vowing never to watch again. What I know of the rest of the series after that is just more and more awful...

The writing started off decent and just got shiattier and shiattier....

Working on watching the final season now...

Finally managed to get the series after many years of wanting to watch the whole darn thing as on TV, they never played the whole thing, at least not in a way that I managed to catch them all, and they'd just keep playing some episodes over and over.

Let's just hope that they don't screw it up and have a better budget that they won't need the leads to dress into the bad soldiers outfits when they weren't in the scene as they couldn't hire enough extras.

And I like the ship's design (The Liberator)... I actually managed to get a couple of the mini Corgi ones, before I even seen the series, so I didn't even know what they were at the time, but I still have them and quite happy about it.

I think the biggest problem with Heroes is that they introduced too many characters and too many subplots and never got around to developing or wrapping hp half of them.

I don't know if the quality of the show or writing really went down hill as much as they wrote themselves into such a complicated mess that there was no way it could be resolved satisfactorily.

Agreed, along with the failure to truly followup with the idea to kill on major characters and bring on new characters each season.

I think by the third season, the motivations of Sylar were changing on a week to week basis.  He's EVIL.  He's misunderstood.  He's good.  He's misled.  He's EVIL.  They also had no concept of continuity with Peter's powers.  They had to constantly find excuses to limit Hiro's practically god-like power, since they didn't have the balls to kill him off.  They stranded that Irish chick in some alternate timeline and never referred to her again.

There was just so much wrong with the show.  I watched it to the end.  At first I had hopes it could improve.  Then I watched it the same way I'd sit through Plan 9 or Manos.  It was laughably bad.  I still hope another series takes a shot at a similar superpowers show (I think "Powers" is something similar starting this Fall).  Heroes could have been perfect if they had been willing to follow through with the original plan of a different cast every season.  At least that would have limited the power creep.

It's on Sci-Fi, so it will suck or if it's actually good they'll ruin it before the end just to piss off their fans.

Archie Campbell

Fun fact, Archie Campbell got some of his best known routines from a cousin of H.P. Lovecraft's.

I can't see this working at all.

On the other hand, if they get Grayza out of Farscape to play Servalan it would be a reassuring start.

I'm just now getting around to watching the second season of American Horror Story after enjoying the heck out of the first. Jessica Lange is an incredibly gifted actress.

The second season is lots of fun, although I can see why people said it has a heck of a lot going on at one time. So far, there are four different horror movie tropes being mixed into one show simultaneously.

Maybe this will raise awareness for the orginal series, and then I could finally find it on netflix.

Best case: They get the Blake/Avon dynamic right, both of them reluctant heroes in completely different ways.

Worst case: They create a second rate Farscape remake, with fewer Muppets.

No American tv show producer/company will ever dare make Avon as ruthless and amoral as the original. Blake the freedom fighter was also Blake the terrorist who knew people would have to die to defeat the evil federation as well as to prove to himself it was all worth it. Aside from dodgy effects and occasional scenery chewing Blakes 7 went into some very grey areas beyond standard space opera morality. Heroes die. The bad guys win. Good guys win a battle, the the bad guys always win the war. It is everything American progressive forward thinking optimistic space opera is not.

And my favorite B7 quote: I have never understood why it is necessary to become irrational in order to prove that you care. Or indeed why it is necessary to prove it at all.

I have to say that Avon was my favourite character for many reason...

I figured that I would be in the minority, but thanks to the internet, turns out that he seriously was the show, and probably the role model for so many "anti-heroes" that followed.

But seriously, imitated, but never did anyone come close to Paul Darrow's approach.

He's the only actor that I've ever seen that could beam lasers made of sarcasm out of his eyes and his delivery of his lines was perfect.
