Think you've got to actually win a playoff game before you start declaring victory.

2013-04-09 10:25:30 AM
It won't be a real victory. More like 3/5ths of a victory.

Why do you do this to yourself, Canada?  Why do you get your hopes up when you *know* you haven't taken the Stanley cup home since 1993?  And Toronto?  Just stop it, you're embarrassing yourself..

Guy beside me at work here is a big Leaf fan and he has a good point.

The Leafs have been so bad for so long their own city and media can't even give them a pat on the back when it's deserved. All you hear is about is how "if this was an 82 game season they wouldn't make it" and "they've just won a few timely games" and "the rest of the conference hasn't been as good this year".

However, I'm sure that will all subside very quickly when a playoff spot is clinched and Leaf Nation will lose its goddamn mind.

Daily playoff chances as of before the start of today's games Tuesday, April 9, 2013

East/% chance of playoffs/% chance of current seed - parenthesis is the previous day
1) Pittsburgh/In/60% (63%)
2) Montreal/100% (100)/33 (38%)
3) Washington/79.8 (79.1%)/74 (74%)
4) Boston/100 (100%)/53 (60%) increased chance of #2 seed
5) Toronto/99.8 (99.2%)/73 (63%)
6) Ottawa/94.4 (94%)/45 (38%)
7) Rangers/80.9 (87.1%)/34 (32%)
8) Islanders/65.6 (63.7%)/28 (31%)
---
9) Jets/30.1 (28.6)/ 15
10) Devils/20.3 (19)/19
11) Flyers/13.5 (12.6)/17
12) Sabres/7.6 (7)/20
13) Lightning/6.5 (6.2)/23
14) Hurricanes/1.5 (3.5)/45
15) Panthers/0.0/87

West
1) Blackhawks/In/98 (99)
2) Ducks/In(100)/95 (95)
3) Canucks/99.8 (98.9)/70 (62)
4) Kings/99.7 (99.6)/ 52 (53)
5) Wild/97.9 (97.1)/16 (13)
6) Sharks/96.8 (95.6)/25 (24)
7) Blues/96.7 (95.6)/ 24 (22)
8) Red Wangs/65.3 (58.7)/ 41 (35)
---
9) Coyotes/15.9 (24.5)/23
10) Stars (11)/ 12.5 (10.6) /20
11) Oilers (10) /9.4 (14.7)/21
12) Blue Jackets/4.3 (3.4)/23
13) Predators/1.5 (1.4)/34
14) Flames/0.0/72
15) Avalanche/0.0/87

"In" =/= 100%, as it rounds up. For instance with Anaheim they have a 100% chance of making the playoffs as its 99.999999% and rounded up. Very few permutations would see them losing all but one game and the Coyotes going 10-0

The fringe teams should be rooting for the following on Tuesday night (almost universally applies): Flyers, Sabres, Habs, Kings. the rest are toss ups/irrelevant.

That series last year was one of the weirdest of all-time.

No consistency. Unbelievably lop-sided scores, followed by a tight two-goal game.

Strange stuff.

If Philly is out of the playoffs and the Canucks get bounced in the first round, I will be a happy man. A happy, but bitter Flames fan who only wants everyone else to feel as miserable as me.

Well, yeah. For Toronto its playoff games usually come in early April. Or, as they're known elsewhere, the last games of the season.

For god's sake, Maple Leaf fans, don't go overboard on getting back to the playoffs. Yes, it'll be a good step, one a long time coming. But don't go all insufferable on people. It's what got you in this mess in the first place, what with parade route planning in October and overselling any rookie as the next Armstrong. Have some dignity, first off. And a little humility might go a long ways, too.

Came across this article because I heard on a thread here that the Leafs and Canadiens had ridiculous ticket prices.
How are the Leafs' costs so high? They haven't been good in forever (no offense). If I was a Toronto native I would have moved on to rooting for the local junior teams in that area. Although, as a Hawks fan I'm not happy that ticket prices hiked almost 13% this year. I remember the days when they were Leaf-like. $8 tickets and no bandwagon fans. It almost gives me a nostalgic feeling. Then I remember the Cup run and I pay my $75 a ticket price and quietly sip my $8 beer.

Well...unless the Rangers go completely in the tank they'll get Montreal in the first round.  Sigh, could see Price do his Roy impersonation and KO the Rangers out.  Could see the Rangers catch lightning in a bottle and advance...

Think Torts should leave after this season; his style eventually grates on people and then they decide they don't want to listen to you anymore.  You want to leave before the players decide to put you on "mute".

didnt your owner state that the flames will be in the playoffs next year?? just be patient.. :)

too bad no red mile this year.

when the pens arent playing the leafs i will be cheering for them for iggys sake.

I'm just fine with where Ottawa is sitting right now, but they need to win a few games to stay there. Really don't want a Boston or Pittsburgh matchup.

I kind of hope that the Penguins win this year, it'd be nice to see Iginla win a cup.

Also nice, seeing Calgary sitting so close to the bottom of the list.

The corporate seats really piss me off. Some of these guys don't even sit in the seats, they just hang out at the bar and watch from the screen. They spend maybe 15 minutes at their seats, it's all about the corporate image of having tickets to these games. I know, I have a few Partners in my office who do this sort of shiat.

Ahh well, at least we're playoff bound this year!

All the media hype aside, they haven't played this good in a decade. I don't care if they get knocked out in the first round. At least we get some playoff hockey.

Well I'd love to hear his plan.

Iginla is gone and even if he does return, his best years are long gone.

Our #1 d-man is gone and our #1 goalie is gone.

Sure, we have cap space now, but what free agent is going to pick Calgary now?

That's just insulting to Flames fans intelligence to say we're gonna be in the playoffs next year. FFS, look at Edmonton and the talent they have and they haven't made it yet.

and now feaster is setup to be fired.. but i'm not certain that is such a bad thing. I guess the owner thinks that statement is enough to keep bums in the saddledome next season.

yeah you're in for a lot of pain over the next few years. If its any consolation it looks like a strong draft this year

Be careful what you wish for.  Jersey got the 3-6 matchup last year and damn near lost.  A hot goalie or a flukey goal can send thing sideways real fast.  Example A.

You do realize that the B's are in 4th, right?

2013-04-09 02:39:10 PM
I say that because right now it looks like the Sens & Leafs battling it out for 5th. The "winner" gets the B's right now...while the 6th team gets whoever wins the SE. Although I doubt the Caps will be a pushover if they continue playing like they are now.

Do you just assume the Habs will drop? Cuz they've been there a while now and the B's don't look so much better that they will easily close the gap with 10 games left.

More of a 'really don't want the Bruins or Pens' situation. The Habs don't scare me as much, but I'd still take whoever wins the SE. I'd love a playoff series against Montreal, but I'd rather it happen with Karlsson and Spezza.
