From the comments:

Mirthor: Val Kilmer is one of the greatest actors to ever live. just one look at tombstone, the doors, or kiss kiss bang bang and that is clear. It's just a plain shame that he hasn't got more rolls.

BlueBlazes: I don't know...looks like he's had more than enough rolls.

Tread: From the looks of him lately, I think he has plenty of rolls.

I chuckled.

Adam West and Michael Gambon turned down the role of James Bond in Diamonds Are Forever before John Gavin was cast. Since the studio subsequently decided to pay off Gavin and get Sean Connery at any cost, West still might not have been James Bond even if he'd accepted.

I hear he's really good with his fans.  My college roommate has a friend who's a big Val Kilmer fan.  I can't remember what DVD he sent through his management (I'm sure it wasn't Batman) but he evidently will sign anything sent to him.  He was doing a play at the time and it took 4 months, but he got the dvd back with a nicely signed note, so I think he seems to be a pretty cool dude.

Kilmer might not have been the most memorable Batman, but he played the best Bruce Wayne IMO.  He had the sauveness of a billionaire playboy that Bruce Wayne was supposed to be.

Of course, I haven't seen the movie in 20 years, or whenever it was out, so my memory might be a little suspect.

I don't know.  I liked Keaton as Bruce Wayne.  He played it crazy enough that you could believe that he was a rich guy who would spend his nights dressed up as a bat and fighting crime in the city.

I don't think Batman Forever is that bad a movie, but it's important to not go into it expecting the same experience as the Burton films that preceded it.  If you view it as a modern sequel to the Adam West Batman movie, it works really well.

Batman and Robin is still crap, though.
