So did the Harry Potter movies, but that doesn't suddenly make wizards real.

I don't thin Bill would be surprised by people buying stupid shiat full of pretty people.

Is this the book based on the miniseries based on the bible?

2013-04-09 09:39:25 AM
Most of the people buying the video have never actually read the book. Little do they know the ending is different.

I'm waiting for the video game based on the book based on the miniseries based on the bible.

This is good. The more believers there are, the greater the proportion of the population the Fark Atheist Brigade can feel superior to. It's all about the self-esteem.

It's already out.  It's called "Billy Graham's Bible Blasters".

/Simpson's already did it.

That's the most hilarious part. It's like this story has never been available in book form before.

I have heard nothing but good things about thus series from the religious and nonreligious alike. I am agnostic and I plan on watching it one of these days.

I like Christianity, but its just so expensive. If you want to spend your Sundays playing make believe there are much more affordable LARPs in most areas.

I'd be impressed if the next time someone makes a movie, TV mini series, etc. about Jesus, that they don't have a golden haired, blue-eyed Anglo play Jesus.

There will always be a market for shiat Subs, case in point...there were positive reviews of the movie North

chew on that one

Yeah, who knew Americans loved religion but hated reading?

2013-04-09 09:55:15 AM
I tried to watch it, made it thru the first episode with only some slight FF'ing.  When it got to the part about Lot and his daughters, there was no hot incest and then they left out a bunch of other incovienent parts as well and so I turned it off and deleted it from my DVr list.

Christians have money and confirmation bias sells; two things I'm sure Bill is perfectly aware of.

History Channel...I'm glad you had a hit with the "Bible"...good for you for tapping into a cultural desire and profiting from the most famous book in history.

I hope that more people will actually read the book as a result, and they can come to their own conclusions about what it teaches.

But white Jesus isn't helping anyone....please stop perpetuating this DERP.....please?

Never forget how much money Christians will throw around if you make something for them. Even if you personally think it shouldn't appeal, Christians will still snap it up. Just look back at WWJD. Well, he'd certainly not speak English, and he'd burn down a Red Lobster.

That's why my projects include Christian themed items. I mean, imagine a complete superhero franchise with a fanbase greater than the entire comic book industry but no copyright holder. And apparently it's capable of unlimited retcon.

To my recollection, that image was a CG compilation of thousands of pictures and images for males of the same era, from the same region. I think it was commissioned by NatGeo. Best approximate guess for what Christ could have looked like,

I also noticed in the beginning of the first episode that they showed Jesus with the crucifixion wounds in his palms.  Hasn't History Channel had multiple Bible specials that proved that Jesus must have had the wounds in his wrists?

That he even had holes is actually pretty unique since standards crucifixion procedure was to just tie your ass up there and then wait for you to die usually from thirst.

I did watch the miniseries - it was pretty well done. Not a religious person - personally don't think the bible is much more than folk tales passed down - don't look down on people who believe Christianity, beause if people find a belief that fulfills them and makes them feel more a part of the human experience...go for it.   (unless they are giant dickweeds about their faith - then they can EABOD.)

I would rewatch it again, just because Jesus was FINE!!!!!

But it was to fulfill prophecy that he had to be pierced...but yes, wrists would be the only reliable method of doing this

Artistic expression is up to the artist. Someone, somewhere, is painting a picture and they have no way of knowing you are offended.

But he had to suffer because he was special or something. I never understood this. Seemed like the Xtians were inflating their mythology when in reality he was a minor troublemaker who wasn't worth writing about in contemporary documents.

The whole cross dragging thing is out of Roman context as well. Romans were brutal yes, but they were also masters of efficiency. If you were to be crucified you'd be drug to some place outside of town, strung up to a tree and left to rot.

And nobody complained about Mary, the physical mother of the son of God, looking a lot like the producer's wife.

I watched one episode because there was nothing else on at the time. Seriously. Anyway, it was the episode with the Annunciation and I liked the idea that Gabriel was depicted as a tired, dirty, common soldier in need of a shave. No blinding light, no halo. Just another dogface delivering a message from the boss.

Totally authentic, there.

One of the "sandal and spear" movies of the 60s and 70s depicted the crucifixion as just that - an everyday execution. No worshipful crowds, no revelations. Just a squad of soldiers under an impatient NCO who wanted to get the job done so they could get back to town for an evening of wine and women. The ground around the three crosses was full of litter and crap, as you might expect.

May have been the Italian "Jesus of Nazareth" - but, anyway, when I saw it on cable I thought: "That's probably how it played out."

I saw some of it. It's more like a half-assed Game of Thrones or 300 except less believable. Just watch those instead.
