(Fox News)   After deciding to climb a mountain to "touch the clouds," hiker "hallucinated wildly" while lost in California forest. Well, isn't that pretty much what you go out into the forest to do in California?   (foxnews.com) divider line 112

Awkward headline, farked up story. Only at the very end to they mention a deputy who damn near got killed looking for their dumbasses. No GPS on your phone? Really?

He saw everything as far as you can see
And they say that he got crazy once and he tried to touch the sun
And he lost a friend but kept his memory

Having been caught out in the wilderness overnight without water etc. I'm having a hard time envisioning 2 semi healthy adults going from lost to hallucinating in under 24 hours. Especially ones that would have stayed put after calling for help. Why would they leave the area where they called for help ?

You have already made the adult decision that you are lost and are going to call for help. The next thing you do is stay put. sitting and waiting isn't going to make your body need a tremendous amount of water. There is more to this story. I would bet they were hallucinating before they got lost on that trail.

500 feet from Holy Jim trail, I bet at least 30 people a day mountain bike there.  And thats a low guess.  The trail head usually has at least a few cars parked there at any given daylight hour.

The Modjeska entrance? Mountain bikers go by my father-in-laws house all day. 30 is a very conservative number. Also, they make a lot more noise since the cougar attack.

Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson were going camping. They pitched their tent under the stars and went to sleep. Sometime in the middle of the night Holmes woke Watson up and said: "Watson, look up at the sky, and tell me what you see." Watson replied: "I see millions and millions of stars." Holmes said: "And what do you deduce from that?" Watson replied: "Well, if there are millions of stars, and if even a few of those have planets, it's quite likely there are some planets like Earth out there. And if there are a few planets like Earth out there, there might also be life." And Holmes said: "Watson, you idiot, it means that somebody stole our tent."

issue firearms to SAR, and deputize them with the instruction to shoot people like this in the head, instead of rescuing them.  I'm not sure that I've ever heard a story of two people less deserving of rescue than these two.

The only thing missing in the story is what drugs they took and when.

My guess is they took "too many shrooms" or acid. The hallucinations were pretty deep.

I listened to the 911 call.  The guy could barely string together a coherent thought on the phone, and couldn't understand the dispatcher.  This was approx 6 hours after they left.  Per their statements to the press they still had water at that point.  The girl said she started puking and hallucinating right after the call to the police.

So they were going nuts after just 6 hours, and got lost because they "left the trail" for some undisclosed reason.  It was not that hot out that day, and they still had water.

AKA, they went mushroom hunting and were tripping balls.
