You referencing Thatcher or Palin's career?

If she spoke proper English, wouldn't that make her an "elitist" and alienate her fan base?

I'm speaking of comparing Thacher to Palin.

Got-damnit! You can't just throw a closeup of Coulter in the middle of an article. Some people have heart conditions.

That's Old English. That language evolved into Middle English and thence into Modern English. It is, by no means, proper at this point and time.

Well, one of them was North Idaho College, where no one ever learned anything.

2013-04-09 10:15:32 AM
Margaret Thatcher was going to teach Palin to be a bigger coont? Well if anyone could do it, she could have.  Good thing she died before that could ever happen.  A stroke of good luck on the worlds behalf.

2013-04-09 10:16:09 AM
Well hell, Maggie forced herself to speak with a 'sophisticated' accent because she was embarrassed by being the daughter of a lowly common grocer. But Palin? Way to pick your battles, there.

2013-04-09 10:16:42 AM
Thatcher was apparently sinking pretty far into dementia already by 2005. So at what point did she take an interest in Palin's career?

2013-04-09 10:17:46 AM
Coulter said that she thought the reason for Mrs Thatcher's interest must have been solidarity with Palin, saying that both she and Thatcher recognized Palin's potential.

Pure Coulter speculation.  Should guide you on how seriously to take it.

Until yesterday, I'd never heard Ms Thatcher speak (even though I'm 31).

Good LORD, she sounds like every rich guy's wife from every 80s flick. Her voice OOZES contempt for "the little people" (which I can imagine her saying in a condescending tone). At least Reagan had the charm - was Britain really just struck by how much of a stereotype she was?

// and Palin - still - isn't fit to munch her fartbox

2013-04-09 10:19:03 AM
What that might have looked like ...

Palin: ... It is like my mentor and esteemed life coach Margaret Thatcher once said 'If you want something said, ask a man. If you want something done, ask a woman'. You betcha!" *wink*

Thatcher: farking nimrod. *shakes head, succumbs to the sweet release of death*

Really, Ann? Is that what you think? Thatcher wanted to express solidarity with a no-term governor from Alaska that turned conservative politics in to a punchline?

Either that or Thatcher's dementia and multiple strokes took control of the steering wheel in her head.

I am not from the UK but she has a very divisive legacy. People in large part loved her or hated her depending on their political affiliation.

I think when someone takes pride in taking away free milk from every schoolchild in Britain then gets elected PM for doing so, it kind of hardens the hearts of those who didn't profit from her prime ministership.

She pretty much declared war on everyone except the very rich, whom she aspired to be one of.

Funny how Coulter tries to tie herself and Palin in with Thatcher after Margaret can no longer call them out for being mindless twats that damage the conservative message.

No, the language evolved after being invaded by the Normans, who brought with them the Latin roots, thus polluting the pure English language and perverting it into some sort of chimeric monster of rules and spellings.

The ones celebrating in the street were our socialists and communists. Many of us have, however, no sympathy. She blighted large areas of the country, many of which have never recovered.

Ken Loach describes it best:

Margaret Thatcher was the most divisive and destructive Prime Minister of modern times.

Mass Unemployment, factory closures, communities destroyed - this is her legacy. She was a fighter and her enemy was the British working class. Her victories were aided by the politically corrupt leaders of the Labour Party and of many Trades Unions. It is because of  policies begun by her that we are in this mess today.

Other prime ministers have followed her path, notably Tony Blair. She was the organ grinder, he was the monkey.

Remember she called Mandela a terrorist and took tea with the torturer and murderer Pinochet.

How should we honour her? Let's privatise her funeral. Put it out to competitive tender and accept the cheapest bid. It's what she would have wanted.
