Gee what lovely samaritans. Their sister or brother stole a dog, gave it to them as a gift, and they oh so kindly, after it became public outcry, returned the stolen dog but only after getting a brand new one and some free swag too.

Yeah that's pretty screwed up. I'm trying to wrap my head around why they thought it was OK to break the rightful owner's heart but not her niece's.

I wonder how much family drama it caused, heh. "So, big bro, you not only stole the dog, but when you found out who the owner was, rather than doing the right thing, you left them a letter saying 'finders keepers', and then it got broadcast on the tv"

I don't know about you, but if that was my sibling, they would be on the receiving end of a biatch-fit, and maybe not get invited to the next holiday dinner. Dicks.

According to the "ransom note" the dog was found at a gas station with a bandanna and a collar that had no tags. If Sara wanted to keep her dog, she should at the very least be sure it's properly tagged.

I'd be incredibly embarrassed if I received it as a gift and they refused to give it back, I don't even know how I'd talk to them. This is the kind of act that would make me question what other kinds of moral decisions they make, it's pretty heartless to do what they did.

I know, just trying to point out there are other options, and most purebred dogs these days are microchipped. Ask around at vets if they know who the dog belonged to. Turn it in to animal control (where is usually the first place someone looks if their dog goes missing) or other local shelter/rescue. Put up signs found dog. Craigslist.

I hate the idea of "Gee, there's no tags. Woo hoo, free dog to sell or give to family!"
