Cool, now NBC can add four more heart warming stories of Americans going for the gold.

Great.  Let me know when Baseball and Softball are added back.

2013-04-08 11:18:22 PM
Personally I think 3-on-3 would be fun as shiat. Maybe not quite "Olympic," but still.

2013-04-08 11:27:34 PM
But yeah, go ahead and get rid of wrestling.

They need to get Tm Kitzrow to announce the 3-on-3 basketball.

I want that German game where they play soccer on bicycles. That looks cool as hell.

If you read the article, you would see they want to add STREET STYLE BMX.

"Fine."

Oh right, forgot about that. Not that I watched wrestling much, but getting rid of it for one of these is pretty ridiculous.

I guess I better start practicing my yo-yo tricks. That should be an Olympic sport by 2020.

The "system" the IOC uses includes a fixed number of "disciplines" or organized bodies.  Some bodies can include multiple medal events.  The sports in TFA would just add medal events within existing disciplines and did/will not effect wrestling's fate.

Return wrestling to its roots.  Nude and with the competitors slathered in olive oil.  That would be a ratings bonanza.

I'm late to the party, but this.  Also, horse dancing.  Motherfarking horse dancing.  No wrestling though.

Yeah, i have to agree that inflated medal totals for basically one activity are bullshiat.  big deal.  if one athlete won the 100m sprint, the 200m spring, the high jump, and discus and then, the 10,000 and the marathon, it would be something, but...the same thing in 50m increments is kinda BS.

But that's just me.

Tango_down: wrestling was the hardest shiat I've ever done in my life.

I agree.  I played football (and bullshiat track/field) at the jr. high and high school level, and I also wrestled.  Wrestling was the biatch of the bunch.  I've never been in better shape.  I have like 1/100th of the idea what an elite wrestler or MMA guy goes through, but that's more than most people.

Also, horse dancing.  I can't say this enough.  Horse dancing.  What the motherfark?

In that case, who do I talk to about getting Slamball sanctioned by FIBA so that it can have its rightful place in the Olympics?

Will they test the bmx riders for playing cards in their spokes? Cause that's just plain cheating.

First, apt login, +1 to you. Second, is Slamball the one with the trampolines? Because I would watch that over any track and field event.

What, a straight guy can't enjoy watching two muscular yet lean men grapple each other in the nude, their calloused hands straining to find purchase against each other's oil slicked bodies, the years of training tempered by primal instinct as the musky scent of their powerful loins waftes about them?

I don't think you guys understand how farking AWESOME 3v3 basketball could be, assuming they split up the USA into multiple teams. How would they pick teams? Would Kobe, Chris Paul and LeBron form the greatest park team ever? What if we could go back in time and split up the Dream Team into multiple 3s? Holy crap, that's much better than watching Spain try and make it competitive.

borg: They're getting rid of wrestling for this shiat?

Read what it says at the end:

Dubi is also awaiting reports from wrestling body, which has an emergency meeting in Moscow next month. Wrestling's gender issues played a part in the IOC board's recommendation to drop both Greco-Roman and freestyle disciplines from the 2020 program.

"Yes, that was always a controversy that they didn't have women for Greco," acknowledged Dubi, with seven men's events and none for women in London. "I will be interested to see what they will propose for Rio."

Basically, they're telling all the sports "be as close to gender equal as possible or you're out" by threatening to drop wrestling.

/remember, it's not official unless the full IOC votes it out in the fall

Thirded. That's bullshiat to toss one of the original Olympic sports, a true example of natural athleticism, as long as rhythmic gymnastics and whatever other bullshiat event looks good. Let's hope the ratings of Dancing with the Stars means we replace the Decathalon with Ballroom Dancing.

I'd know I'd watch it but the whole getting rid of wrestling (which was in the original Greek Olympics) and baseball (an old and established sport played in different regions) annoys me, especially when you see all those obscure sports in the Olympics that are still around and/or being added.

Here's what I'd do if I ran the Olympics:
Bring back wresting
Bring back baseball
Add cricket
Add MMA (hopefully so they can threaten the boxing federation to clean up their act)
Add golf
Add whatever rugby style is more popular internationally (league or union, I have no idea)
Get polo in the Olympics (which would be more interesting than the other horse based events)
Add breakdancing competitions to the whole gymnastics thing
Get some skateboarding action in somehow (no rollerblading though, unless it's roller hockey)

TheJoe03: Here's what I'd do if I ran the Olympics:
Bring back wresting  This, but they clearly need to make changes
Bring back baseball  If they can't get MLB to send pros, it won't happen.
Add cricket  Has to be that Twenty20 stuff
Add MMA (hopefully so they can threaten the boxing federation to clean up their act)  Amateur MMA is run by the same people that run wrestling so it's a package deal in a way
Add golf  Happening in Rio 2016
Add whatever rugby style is more popular internationally (league or union, I have no idea)  Rugby Sevens will be at Rio 2016
Get polo in the Olympics (which would be more interesting than the other horse based events)  I think they want sports with wide appeal. Polo doesn't fit.
Add breakdancing competitions to the whole gymnastics thing  Please, no more judged "sports"
Get some skateboarding action in somehow (no rollerblading though, unless it's roller hockey)  See above

they should add hide and go seek.  i think the germans would be strongly favored in that one

Freeze tag.  I assumed they were getting rid of wrestling to make room for Freeze Tag.

and Red Rover.

TSR came up with the only Olympic sport we need in the future

desertgeek: This, but they clearly need to make changes

I don't know enough about wrestling to know what you mean. What was wrong with it? Are boxing and judo really that much better organized?

desertgeek: If they can't get MLB to send pros, it won't happen.

Sucks for softball and Cuba when it comes down to it. I get the IOC's reasoning, but I don't agree with it.

desertgeek: Has to be that Twenty20 stuff

Yeah, the one were the games last for more than one day would be a terrible idea. Cricket would probably benefit a lot from getting into the Olympics, maybe like the Dream Team did for world awareness of their sport. I STILL don't understand how that sport works and maybe if I could see some big games on TV I might get into it. If I could learn handball and curling, why not cricket?

desertgeek: Amateur MMA is run by the same people that run wrestling so it's a package deal in a way

Interesting, like I said earlier I'm quite ignorant about what's going on with the wrestling (and I guess MMA) organizations. I grew up a boxing fan (and it's the only fighting style I personally know how to do), so that's the only martial art in the Olympics that I actually watch and follow. The boxing program is terrible right now, so why did wrestling get screwed?

desertgeek: Happening in Rio 2016

desertgeek: Rugby Sevens will be at Rio 2016

Awesome.

desertgeek: I think they want sports with wide appeal. Polo doesn't fit.

But dressage does? I only said polo because it would actually watch polo because it's a real sport, and I'm sure a bunch of bougie westerners can compete (like dressage and the other horse events). Like cricket, field hockey, handball, water polo, etc, I would watch just because they are sports I have never watched before but they fit into my love for team sports.

desertgeek: Please, no more judged "sports"

At least these sports are cool. I thought about adding breakdancing during the last Olympics when I saw that apparently there are events were a bunch of chicks are doing performance theater pieces with some random object (I think a ball, a ribbon, and something else). I thought that if that was kosher, why not something cool and more widely done like breakdancing. Same reason I think skateboarding should be in as well. In the end, these are just the things I'd do if I was running things, I know the IOC won't even consider half my dumb ideas.

Polo is a horse event that actually has results. I could watch that. Of course, I went to UVA and still live in horse country. Though not raised in it, I can see the value of it.
