a trilogy taking place in a world inhabited by covert witches; one faction is good and the other evil. They are divided by hatred and united by one thing only - fear of a boy descended from both sides.

The great thing about children's fiction is that they don't realize a plot has been done to death. It's the first time THEY have see it.

Well.. as much as I look forward to the outcry by the jesusy folks, wasn't however many years of Charmed torture enough?

Just what we need, more fad wiccans. Like the serious ones aren't bad enough.

I still liked How to Train Your Dragon, even if every other kids story is "Akward kids finds his confidence in himself in an unexpected place". It's not the trope, it's how you tel it.

I enjoyed Beautiful Creatures, it had plenty of witches, however, it didn't exactly set the theaters on fire.

Just remember that it has to have some form of "monster" in it from classic cinema that's bastardized down to a shell of what it originally was, add glitter, and make it the love interest of some angst-filled teen. Then sit back and watch the accolades and giant sacks with $s on them roll in.

I dunno, I kind of like watching early morning reruns from some of the later seasons of Charmed. They tend to have a lot of popping nipples, which is always a good way to start the day.

Anyway, I hear a lot of people saying first it was vampires, then zombies, and predicting what will be next... it's kind of a false comparison, since vampires were more popular with young girls, and zombies more popular with 18-35 year old men.  And I don't think the next fad will be witches.... that ship already sailed with Harry Potter.

The utter bomb of "Mars Needs Moms" might push it back a couple years, but I'm going with aliens as the next big thing. Needs a good teen girl/sexy alien boy love story though to catch the attention of tweens everywhere.

Really?  The Underworld movies didn't come out that long ago.  The plot as described is pretty much direct plagiarism, just substituting witches for the other types of traditional supernatural creatures.

And still no farking Ringworld nor The Mote in God's Eye movie, and they're dragging their feet on a half-assed Ender's Game movie.  I don't even want to think about the fact that they've never made the requisite Snow Crash or Neuromancer movies.

Here in east bumblefark the jesusy folks are still up in arms about that rock n roll music the kids listen to nowadays. A gateway to hedonism and loose morals. You know, people that think Axl Rose makes devil music to seduce their tweenage daughters.

I'm waiting for Hollywood to come back around to a Dracula (or better yet, a Blackula) movie, or at least another Blade movie. Wesley Pipes needs the money and he could do some Blade/Blackula mashup movie. Oh and when was the last Frankenstein movie made? If anyone in Hollywood is listening, you know all this stuff would make a profit.

I was hoping it was Wicked ( great book, as is Son of a Witch ) .
Thats okay though. fox= crap.
My idea is keep it as is, so... hbo or showtime remain my only hope.

So, the "paranormal teen romance" already gave use vampires, zombies, witches, aliens, werewolves, angels, immortals, demons and faeries. Are there any supernatural characters left for us, or will I be too late for my time-traveler romance ?

Oh, shiat, it's called "The time traveler's wife".

And I already had a nom-de-plume: Dark McRaven.

They really need to do a Granny Weatherwax story on the big screen. I'd say Witches Abroad is what I'd like to see most, but Wyrd Sisters is a better introduction to the characters.

I don't know if it's Twilight-level because I've never read Twilight. But it is essentially a soap opera. Reminded me of Jacqueline Carey a bit. But with less sex and torture.
