We wouldn't want any nature in our gated communities. That might be sustainable and eventually be enjoyed by future generations.

Rich people problems. Try living in a neighborhood full of stray/feral cats and the city wont do jack shiat because there is no leash law for cats.

dropping off a cat on that island will fix the problem. you don't even have to go pick it up later. it will have just enough food landing regularly to keep it nicely fed until it dies of old age.

While the article implies it, the homeowner interviewed by phone did not come right out and admit she launched the fireworks. "We wanted the birds gone. Did it work? No." is not a confession.

But somebody's going to have a very bad time with the feds over this. They damned near shut down Hemingway's museum over feral cats.

I've found that a sound generator (used to use a Tranquil Moments machine, now I just turn on my iPod) does a great job of masking the sounds of a spouse who gets up earlier than I do (mad early work hours). Find an MP3 you like -- burbling brooks are good, or rushing sounds like wind or waterfalls; my current favorite is crickets -- and leave it running all night (using a small speaker if necessary). Oddly enough, I can sleep through any number of loud birds, but the garbage truck wakes me up no matter what. Not even other vehicles, just that one. You go figure.
