AirForceVet: Economists are still predicting the US economy will drop 0.5% or more due to the Sequester. I'm posed to lose my job. We'll wait & see.
itsfullofstars: Tea partiers also have little understanding
Yogimus: Anyone finding irony in NPR doing a story about having a hard time finding things about the sequester?
itsfullofstars: the tea partiers think that sequester is a great thing, that only the waste and abuse will be affected. That's not how across the board cuts work.Tea partiers also have little understanding of how much of their daily lives is impacted by things funded by the federal government. Even their state and local government get much of their funding from federal sources. But I guess we should just get off their lawn.
PanicMan: AirForceVet: Economists are still predicting the US economy will drop 0.5% or more due to the Sequester. I'm posed to lose my job. We'll wait & see.I (and a lot of other people) are going to lose 14 days of pay. Even if you have all your finances sorted out, that's a noticeable amount of money that won't get spent on "nice-to-have" things. And if you don't have your finances sorted out, well then enjoy that extra debt and hardship!Anyone who says the sequester has no effect isn't paying attention, or is paid not to pay attention. Or is an asshole.
wildcardjack: I haven't looked too hard into the ATC tower thing in the sequester, but a contract tower isn't the same as an FAA tower. Contract towers are usually paid for by the airport operator. FAA generally doesn't staff a tower with less than 100,000 operations per year or if the airport is under class B airspace for a major airport and does a fair bit of traffic. And I don't know why they're calling it Don Scott Field. It's KOSU. And from the Airnav... ATCT OPERATED BY MIDWEST INC. And with 187 ops a day it's a nice little airport that the registered owner, OSU, might have to foot the bill on tower staff. Typically 5-6 people retired from the FAA due to a mandatory retirement age, you can get away with paying them $50-$60k a year without retirement or health benefits because they got those in their retirement bundle.So... I don't know what's going on here, but we're talking a half million or so a year to operate your tower. And good god,$5 and $6 fuel... But that looks within average around Ohio. So, if someone's been footing your bill for CTOs you might want to suck it up and operate it your self./Yes, I have a little card from FAA saying Certified Tower Operator.//No, FAA never called me back about a job.///Yes, I am getting a kick out of watching them sweat.
Englebert Slaptyback: Of course it's in the last place you look: once you find it, you stop looking.
