Oh, FFS. These people are simply ridiculous.

impaler: My mother constantly gets mail at her house begging her for money to fight the good fight. More often than not, the groups begging her for help have "Tea Party" in their name and they are all scams.

Don't you hate it when other con artists con your own marks?

I like the audacity of declaring what are "real" Teabagger groups when they constantly insist it is a grass roots organization with no structure.

impaler: Gyrfalcon: Shields is dangerous. He has no internal compass, and his political mentor is Congressman Dave Reichert. Reichert is probably the most liberal Republican in the House. He has never had a job in the private sector. (This from an "anonymous Republican source")

It's reminding me of the "I love the Constitution more than you!" that we were getting a few years back--only x3 and outer-directed this time. The Night of Long Knives, only in slow motion. Hitler must be loving it.

Yep. Also Paul Ryan has never had a job in the private sector.

And as if having a job in the private sector is necessarily a good thing. Guess who our businessman presidents have been?

Warren G. Harding, Herbert Hoover, Jimmy Carter and the Bushes. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of private sector experience.

I had this idea for a great startup business. Millions of FaceBook ads and direct mail asking for money to defeat Hillary Clinton again. We know she's coming, and those who are scared of her and derpy enough to want to beat her will be more than happy to send me money.
Then I use some of the money to fund the most progressive candidate I can find to run against her. Even if she still wins, still get my (pinko-commie left-wing) issues out there, and I do it with money from derpy right-wingers, which leaves less money for them to fund the GOP candidate.

And this, students, is why we use .png nowadays instead of .jpg.

/I'm 75% sure that says "Visceral Giving" and "Calculated Giving"?

Okay, students, listen up: the "P" in "JPEG" stands for "Photograph(ic)" (Joint Photographic Experts Group, to be precise). If it ain't a photograph, do not save it as a .JPG! Line art, logos, charts, graphs, graphical text, panels from comics / stills from cartoons (even color ones), etc. should all be saved as .PNG (preferably 8-bit, with 8-bit alpha if you need transparency or a non-rectangular outline and know how to do that [Photoshop can't, Fireworks can], 24-bit or 32-bit if absolutely necessary), or .GIF in a pinch ― .TIFF if it's intended for print and page layout software.

A very interesting read is one of the article's linked by Rick Perlstein on The Baffler:

http://www.thebaffler.com/past/the_long_con

Basically an in depth takedown of the whole conservative lying paranoid rumor machine.  It is over half a year old by now though so obviously focuses on Romney, but the lessons it teaches are timeless. (Republicans depend on Base Republicans being ludicrously gullible and uninformed.)

You generate far more donations/book sales/newsletter subscriptions as an aggrieved minority than as a successful political party with the power to enact actual policy.

The last thing the huckster wing of the republican party wants is to win more elections, just like the last thing the gun industry wants is for liberals to stop trying to enact gun control.

Watching the Republican party eat itself alive from within is just making my entire life worthwhile at this point. You so rarely get to watch a vicious rabid animal eat its own entrails while at the same time snarling at you that it's totally enjoying it's meal and you should just back the f*ck off. This line was priceless:

Love it!

GOP whiz kids come up with "create crazy paranoid e-mails that will frighten old people and get them to give us money!"

Never did they conisder that Joe-Blow-Insane-Dude would think "I need to get rid of these black helicopters and commies in my neighborhood, better frighten some old people for money to help cover the difference between my parent's mortgage and the rent I owe them!"

Please proceed, True Conservativestm

FTFA:  The letters tell apocalyptic stories about atheist professors who want to teach gay sex to kindergarteners, or United Nations plots to doom the U.S. dollar, or your average smug elite laughing all the way to the bank, and only you can stop them by donating $5, $10, or $25. A more recent example comes from Newt Gingrich's Gingrich Productions, which sent out this threat that Obama could run for a third term, below.

There's your problem. Gingrich was almost the presidential candidate last year. Rick Santorum now works for World Net Daily, which is as I'm to understand, just a collection of those FWD FWD FWD scam emails presented in article form. You can't clamp down on dishonesty and misinformation if everyone in the movement up to the very top is a freaking con man.

A few days ago I noticed that they're STILL pushing the line that schools are trying to indoctrinate your children to be progressive drones.  I was strongly tempted to respond as follows:

SOCIAL CONSERVATISM: The fear that someone, somewhere, is teaching your children to be smarter than you.

Two of the GOPs Presidential contenders were in it only to generate book sales.  Gingrich even managed to "campaign" in Hawaii for his anniversary.

Anonymous needs to get some of these groups' mailing lists and give them to someone who will run a troll campaign. Solicit money for "freedom!" and give the proceeds to Planned Parenthood.

Some Farker many months ago post a link in a politics thread to a really interesting piece analyzing the fact that the right wing media is largely a vehicle to fleece the gullible. It was a really long and detailed piece and I wish my google-fu was acute enough to find it now. I can't say it was exactly 'eye opening', but there was a lot of interesting nuance in it that made it a worthwhile read.
