Gyrfalcon: Shields is dangerous. He has no internal compass, and his political mentor is Congressman Dave Reichert. Reichert is probably the most liberal Republican in the House. He has never had a job in the private sector. (This from an "anonymous Republican source")

It's reminding me of the "I love the Constitution more than you!" that we were getting a few years back--only x3 and outer-directed this time. The Night of Long Knives, only in slow motion. Hitler must be loving it.

Yep. Also Paul Ryan has never had a job in the private sector.

swahnhennessy: theknuckler_33: Some Farker many months ago post a link in a politics thread to a really interesting piece analyzing the fact that the right wing media is largely a vehicle to fleece the gullible. It was a really long and detailed piece and I wish my google-fu was acute enough to find it now. I can't say it was exactly 'eye opening', but there was a lot of interesting nuance in it that made it a worthwhile read.

Or you could RTFA, or the thread....

Hey man, only so much he can do at 2400 baud to aol.

dookdookdook: You generate far more donations/book sales/newsletter subscriptions as an aggrieved minority than as a successful political party with the power to enact actual policy.

The last thing the huckster wing of the republican party wants is to win more elections, just like the last thing the gun industry wants is for liberals to stop trying to enact gun control.

Ah, the "Christians are persecuted!" model.

Poopspasm: But without irrational fearmongering bullshiat, where will the Republican Party be?

This. There is nothing else there.

CokeBear: I had this idea for a great startup business. Millions of FaceBook ads and direct mail asking for money to defeat Hillary Clinton again. We know she's coming, and those who are scared of her and derpy enough to want to beat her will be more than happy to send me money.
Then I use some of the money to fund the most progressive candidate I can find to run against her. Even if she still wins, still get my (pinko-commie left-wing) issues out there, and I do it with money from derpy right-wingers, which leaves less money for them to fund the GOP candidate.

Get your PAC started now! I've thought about doing the same thing except just keeping the money. I think I can just do that now legally

This is one of the few things Republicans are actually competent at... too bad it's used for evil.

And as if having a job in the private sector is necessarily a good thing. Guess who our businessman presidents have been?

Warren G. Harding, Herbert Hoover, Jimmy Carter and the Bushes. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of private sector experience.

What a conservative grifter might look like

These people have transformed several of my rural elderly relatives, most of whom are only alive because of medicare funded procedures to clear out their arteries and only not homeless thanks to government benefits into intolerable lunatics.

FTFA: The RNC later clarified that Shields was only attacking "beltway professionals whose focus is solely to make a profit off the party and movement." But not everyone was convinced. Leahy thought Shields was attacking non-Beltway groups like FreedomWorks and Tea Party Patriots.) Brent Bozell, Chairman of ForAmerica, said Shields' comments were "insulting." FreedomWorks' Matt Kibbe said, "It's sad to hear that GOP insiders are disparaging the freedom community behind closed doors..." An anonymous Republican source told Leahy that Shields was not to be trusted:

Of course they would object to those comments. It pretty much exposes the entire modern conservative movement.
