(Upworthy)   In 1968, a girl wrote to Fave magazine to say she was being harassed because she was a child of mixed race. Magazine responds with thoughtful column by successful grownup who faced the same problem as a kid. And by "successful grownup," I mean Spock   (upworthy.com) divider line 94

You are correct. I'm just bitter because I've had some green lights taken away (after already going green) because the linked story was "too old" and people in the thread were biatching about it. I'm just an altogether  bitter old man at this point.

That headline is slightly misleading, it makes it sound like the girl wrote in to an advice column and they compared her situation to that of Spock's, but he girl was writing to Spock asking how he dealt with being bi-racial.  What's cool is that he responded.

/that being said, I really want to know where I can get that groovy Monkees Sweat Shift.

What you need to do is escew the persuit of popularity and take pride in the brilliant headlines you've submitted--especially the red ones.  All of the great submitters will tell you that some of their most inspired works of greatness fell victim to cynical or wit-proof modmins.  It is in the persuit of greatness, and in the satisfaction of impressing yourself, that you find the true joy of chasing those elusive greens.

Spock did this.  And when I see him commenting in the great redlit wasteland of TFD from the bridge of the Starship Enterprise, I know he did the right thing.

The designer of that site.. nay, the designer of ANY site that constantly pops up balloons and shiat should be punched in the genitals until they die.

Is this what millennials think makes for good web design? I've thus far resisted using noscript plugins, but I'm starting to lean towards "fark all websites, rape them for their content and cum on their tits" levels of not caring.

I know you're being funny but that's actually a really good case for showing a dude's evolution on a position.  When Nimoy wrote the former, he was in full Alan Rickman 'Galaxy Quest' mode, where he'd begun to resent Spock's popularity and near-dominion over the public view of his life.  He was very tired, not exactly of the fandom, but that's a bit of how it came out.

Later, much later, he found some perspective and embraced Spock's place in pop culture and his own place within that, realizing it didn't undermine anything else he tried to do.  It brought him back to the fans.
