Stupid? Well, maybe.  They're trying to prevent invasive external species from taking hold.  It's both a worthwhile task(certain invasive species are awful and destructive to existing environments) and stupid(don't tell mother nature what to do).

Ivasive species are responsible for wiping out quite a few of Hawaii's flora and fauna, submitter.

Haven't you ever heard of Invasive species , subby?  The Great Lakes are a mess now because of them.  I guess it sucks for the fish since they got there through no fault of their own but fish have memories like, well... fish and don't really have families to go back to.
